Cos without the image of the ball leaving the player who crosses the ball how do they determine if the scorer is on or offsides?

Because it is done at the time of the pass. That is the beauty of it.

The goal scorer was behind the crosser - goal.

Lol he was way onside. The last chance I think was an offside anyway.
