Farke Presser

Farke:

"Patrick will definitely miss both legs of the
semi-final. He’s seen a different knee
consultant and there is a mini trauma in
the patellar tendon. He definitely needs
a couple of weeks to recover."

Not his biggest fan...but, when you're only
true #9 can't play during critical games,
you're generally fcked.

I don't blame Bamford here. I blame the
club for continually ignoring this huge issue.

Watching the U18's yesterday we played the whole of the first half with a winger as our main striker, after City had scored we took him off and replaced him with another winger.
I know Harry Gray scores for fun and he wasn't eligible but it does appear that we have an issue in all age groups with strikers at the moment.

Agree with Jonty too. Joseph to start.

I doubt Farke will do that though.

The U18s main strikers for that age group are both out injured. Wilson was pretty effective before his injury.

The clubs persistent inability to recruit an out-and-out 9 to compete with Bamford is bizarre, because its not just one DoF now. How many 'strikers' have we signed now that just didn't suit the job being asked of them or who weren't strikers full-stop?

I have Rodrigo, Rutter, Gnonto, Piroe, Grot, Greenwood, and Gelhardt. The last two more spurious. Arguably James was signed with the capacity of playing ST too. Not good enough.

Start with Victor Orta.

Joined us in 2017. Brought in Bamford from
Middlesbrough to continue his vanity project
of showing Chelsea what a huge mistake they
made letting him go. In order to show Monchi
how ace he was (he really wanted the Sevilla gig).

Managers at LUFC since Orta's reign started:

Marcelo - he stated he could work with whoever
was at the club. And Orta wanted Bamford.

Post Messiah:

Marsch Feb '22 - Feb '23
Skubala Feb '23 - Feb '23
Gracia Feb '23 - May '23
Allardyce May '23 - June '23

Throughout that period we had Orta still amping
up his vanity project Bamford. All of his signings
in hindsight look like complimentary parts to
surround Bamford. As in, to Orta and the club,
Bamford was the centre of everything LUFC.

Orta leaves 2023.

Farke is hired. Pukki is his model #9.
But...despite that, settles for Bamford as his
side's centre of everything LUFC.

Club knee jerk into signing Piroe.

Weird.

It's like the club somehow feel Bamford is
the epicentre of everything LUFC.

Farke abandoned his beliefs to try and crowbar
in the player at #9 the club has continued to
bend over for since 2017.

Bamford only came into the first team in January. Hard to believe that Farke saw him as the epicentre or wanted to crowbar him in. More pertinent is the fact that we surely signed Piroe knowing that he didn't fit the system.

I think the board wanted a big name signing at striker, someone with championship pedigree. Then saw the fans clamouring for Piroe and went for him, even though he didn't suit the project or the coach. Will generously put it down to a learning curve for non-football people who don't understand that not all 9s can suit all systems.

We will disagree on the merits of Bamford until the end of time. I am sure we are both resigned to the fact that neither of us will convince the other of their stance. Takes all sorts to make the world, and all that.

Bang on. Losing players left and right to Orta
loan loopholes in the summer. And yes, the 49ers
knee jerked and signed a 'name' who scored
plenty of goals at this level, to appease the fans.

Despite - and I think all posters on the LUFC
ja section of this site agree - he never fit Farke's
system. Never. I still think he's a decent player
at this level. As is Bamford when he actually sees
the pitch. Which is hardly ever. But neither one
is an actual Farke #9. Farke obviously realized the
club were in a bigger mess than he was told. And
he knuckled down and dealt with that mess.

Which meant we had a crock #9 and a hybrid 9/10
alongside an inverted winger in Rutter leading the
attack.

Yep. That's it in a nutshell. If Marcelo can't
convince me (and plenty of other fans) that
Bamford's running around isn't the be all
and end all of modern #9 play, then no one
can. Give me a goal scorer any day of the week.

I'd much rather see a goal scorer alongside
a true #10 and a box-to-box midfielder alongside
our wingers all day long.

Saying all that, football is just emotional opinions.

We can agree that a win against Delia's XI tomorrow
and we're on our way to making everything right.

Morning all🌞. Just a fleeting visit from me on here today (stop cheering😂) as I’m still sunning in the Med atm. Anyway, a couple of points to make …

[1] DF is working me now with his BS he’s coming out with in the recent pressers. He again claimed we were never in control of autos (we’ve disproved that already on here) and his other claim that we had no other choice to play the way we did against Southampton is nonsense. Also, he claimed that a goal for us would have put some pressure on Ipswich … after spouting all season long that he ‘doesn’t do mind games’ … he needs to earn his corn today …

On another subject, is Earl gonna do the MDT today?
