Wow, SA have another brand new generation of chokers.

However, with India getting to so many semis and finals recently, it would’ve been sad if they never won a trophy. Good that they at least won one here.

Can’t believe SA lost that from needing 30 off 30 with Miller & Klaasen at the crease.

Probably the biggest collapse in a World Cup KO game ever.

But I’m glad India won. They’d lost their last 5 world finals before today, and a couple of close semis as well, so this group definitely deserved a World Cup title.

Fair play also for how they emphatically beat Australia to eliminate them, after they lost the ODI final to them, and then crushed England, who crushed them in the last T20 Cup. It was #RevengeSzn I guess.

Thinking about Bumrah this World Cup, it’s the most dominant bowling performance in a World Cup ever imo. The only other one in the same ballpark was Mitchell Starc at the 2015 ODI Cup.

Contrary to many, SA did not choke. It’s India’s brilliance with ball, fielding, tactics and their extraordinary drive to win, has won them the game. SA has come long way and I’d expect them to get better and win tournament(s) not too in the distant future. The quality of cricket in finals was highest order. Entire tournament was down to last few overs. Doesn’t happen that often. They should settle wars in Eastern Europe and Middle East over a game, hard to watch the bloodshed.

Enjoyed the company of this very knowledgeable cricketing crowd here (minus the hate towards other nations teams). Thanks to host of this thread. Now off to EURO and then Olympics. 2024 summer is great for sports crowd. Hollywood will take a beating revenue wise.

They were both set and needed 30 off 30 balls. All they needed was singles. They absolutely choked, firstly there was no need to go that slow even vs Bumrah. Both Klaasen and Miller got out to terrible balls. Jansen and Maharaj are 2 of the worst number 7 and 8 in I’ve ever seen, however I’ve never seen them bat worse. It’s not just about getting out, it’s about wasting deliveries.

But Bumrah did bowl amazing and this group of India players definitely deserve a trophy.

South Africa should not get off lightly for this though. This is probably why they keep choking. They keep lying to themselves that they didn’t choke.

Will South Africa ever get a better chance to win a major ICC event? They have a very good squad but the pressure will be immense of them now.
