How many times?

In the last 20 years how many times have stories like this featured in the summer transfer news? I'm not even bothered what we spend this summer, I'm just so sick and tired of being lied to. I actually think we do much better signing mid priced players rather than big money signings. I'm just so done with getting my hopes up in summer about spending big money and making world class signings that will finally get us over the line.

Good points.

The easiest thing to do if someone wants regular very big signing, is to support Man City, or possibly Man United or Chelsea. Otherwise, it is what it is.

But why is it?

What is our reluctance in the age of FFP and PSR to flex our currently considerable advantage.

Newcastles owners have all the money in the world but can’t spend it, Villa have sold their best midfielder despite qualifying for the CL, City have only made a signing from one of their feeder clubs.

Why not push on whilst we have this advantage, why are we retaining the FFP headroom?

Christ do you lot not get sick of moaning about the same thing every day ffs

at least wait until the window has ended before you start kicking up a fuss, for all you know we could sign Eze or Neto or Toney tomorrow. Seems to be how we're doing business now, the Werner and Gray signings came out of nowhere

I'm not sure about Eze now. I'd love him to come in but I think Arsenal selling ESR for 35m is all part of their financing approach for Eze. The only area of weakness in their team is on the left side. Let's face it, if Arsenal come in for him, it's over. I don't think City are even in the equation, not with Grealish and Doku in that area.

Pretty sure Arsenal want Nico Williams.

Eze is more a central player anyway, he can play wide forward but I think prefers Maddison’s 10 role - would be great to alternate those 2 and play then together at times.

If we miss out on Eze then I assume it will be full steam ahead for Neto

When is season ticket renewal time, these stories are usually drip fed into the media around then.

They never come true.

Yes exactly my point Billy.

I certainly wasn't saying Spurs never spend any money, and these days we often spend it well.

It's just all these 'leaked' stories at season ticket renewal time that annoy me. Remember that boll*cks last year about the £150m investment for transfer spending?

I know we're never going to Man Utd or Chelsea with our spending and that's absolutely fine. Just stop with the lies.

To be fair, season ticket renewal time is May

Almost all of our biggest flops have been signed from overseas, Ndombelly, Lo Celso, Loldado, Gil, Janssen, Paulinho, Njie, Chiriches, etc etc

If you are going to spend big then it is far less a risk signing proven PL players, which is why going the extra yard for the likes of Eze, Neto, Toney etc should not be such a problem.

Our problem (as always) is that everything is a business decision rather than a sporting decision.

You can argue we’ve had crazy success from overseas - Modric, Berbatov, VDV, Romero, etc

For every Lennon and Dawson there is a Routledge and Reid

Yes I know but the £150m thing was at season ticket renewal time and there have been countless other times when this nonsense about transfer war chests etc has come out just when season tickets are being renewed. Levy should remember that we fans are mugs and will renew anyway.

I can’t stand Levy but I don’t think the issue is lack of funds - we were the 4th highest spenders in Europe last season.

The issue is how we remunerate managers - it’s all about CL qualification and the cups can go whistle.

His other big big failing is lack of commitment to a strategy - hiring Jose and note but then not backing them. Finally backing Poch and then sacking him. Veering between DOF and managers making transfer decisions. He just can’t commit so we always end up a bit of a pick n mix.
