Does the country need to put race, colour and religion to one side for a minute and first just accept we have a national crisis on our hands with the number of young males walking around carrying machetes and knives like they are an every day item?
And let's not be prejudice here.....these are males from all walks of life and backgrounds. It's not a Black, white or Asian crisis. It's effecting all communities.
Kier Starmer has an open goal here in my opinion. It's time to accept we are losing this battle and declare it an emergency. More police are needed on the beat and they need support from everyone including government and courts to come down hard on anyone who thinks carrying a machete around is perfectly fine. More stop and searches and massive sentences handed out are required to get a handle on this crisis. The do nothing approach and finger point isn't working.
Just seen the video of Southend last night and it's truly horrific seeing young lads trying to stab each other in broad daylight Infront of a bleeding theme park full of families.
Things are bleak and are getting out of hand now.
Knives = Is it a National emergency?

Getting tough on criminals without addressing the root causes of crime rarely achieves much.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What if the root cause is that we've not been tough enough up to now?
Talk of rehabilitation is all very well but if (big IF) we are talking about immigrant population then we are asking people to change their culture (not fast or easy) whilst at the same time calling for a multi-cultural society?
Of course, the latter is political claptrap we only want the good bits and put the blinkers on about the bad with no plan how to deal with it.

Who mentioned immigrants?

Britain is a violent country full of violent people and violent gangs who have used knives, Razor gangs, Teddy boys, Casuals, drug gangs. Only difference I see now from historical gangs is the stabbings rather than slashings and the age of the killers.

That doesn't make sense if you think it through.

This and a history of taking a lot of alcohol and drugs. Its not an immigration issue but an endemic thing within us since even before the days of gin alley, Jack the Ripper etc.

Getting tough on criminals without addressing the root causes of crime rarely achieves much. You just get an increased amount of people who spend their lives in jail or briefly out before going back in.
The root cause is usually poverty, a lack of opportunity, substance abuse and abuse.
It's easy to say lock them up for 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, life etc etc and yes it is of course a deterrent but that only goes so far.
A rehabilitated person is far safer for society, and far happier than one constantly doing gruelling time between brief moments of miserable freedom. A person who never felt the desire/need to turn to crime at all is the best outcome and that starts with a better functioning society, something that's been largely let down by the previous government and we'll see if the new one can do any better.

There are various much stricter countries than ours that very hardly any crime. Singapore is a great example.

Carrying a knife and walking around without a care in the world should carry an automatic 20 year sentence. The police know these gangs and where and how they operate. They just need to round them up, enough is enough. No more of this 'Disallousioned Youths' have grown up and know no difference excuse.
Knife crime would soon stop if The Government had a pair of boll0 k5. There to blame for our weak nation and weak shackled police force. They'd rather prioritise 'ism' excuses over common sense.
