Derby County 1 - 1 Hull City

DERBY COUNTY v HULL CITY Championship #12

Saturday 26th October 2024, 1500 Pride Park Stadium,

As we approach the end of October, Pride Park Stadium will be buzzing with anticipation as Derby County hosts Hull City in what promises to be a thrilling EFL Championship clash. Both teams are fighting for momentum as they look to secure vital points and continue their respective pushes towards the top of the table. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting matchup!

The Rams have been showing some promising signs in the 2024/25 campaign under Paul Warne. Despite some inconsistent performances, they are currently sitting mid-table, hungry for more. Their recent results have been a mix of solid home wins and disappointing away draws, but Pride Park has remained somewhat of a fortress. Derby fans will be hoping their side can continue their strong home form and pick up all three points against Hull.

Recent Results:

Derby 2-1 Sunderland (Home)
Preston 1-1 Derby (Away)
Derby 3-0 Cardiff (Home)

Hull City, on the other hand, have been performing above expectations this season and find themselves chasing promotion. The Tigers are unbeaten in their last five matches, and their ability to grind out results away from home has been a major factor in their strong league position. Their manager will be confident of getting something out of this fixture, especially with their recent attacking displays.

Recent Results:

Hull 3-1 Watford (Home)
Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Hull (Away)
Hull 2-2 Middlesbrough (Home)

Head-to-Head Record:
The last few meetings between Derby and Hull have been closely contested, with both sides trading victories. Their most recent encounter back in February saw Hull come away with a narrow 2-1 win at the MKM Stadium. Derby will be looking to exact some revenge this time around, but Hull's recent form makes this a tough test for the home side.

Last 5 Meetings:

February 2024: Hull City 2-1 Derby County
September 2023: Derby County 3-0 Hull City
March 2023: Hull City 1-1 Derby County
October 2022: Derby County 2-0 Hull City
April 2022: Hull City 1-0 Derby County

Derby will likely set up in their familiar 4-3-3 formation, looking to control the midfield and exploit Hull’s defense with quick counter-attacks. Paul Warne may opt for a more attacking lineup, especially with their home advantage.

Hull have been using a 3-4-3 setup recently, emphasizing wing-back play to overload the flanks. Their midfield is dynamic and compact, with their forwards pressing high up the pitch. Tim Walter will likely keep faith in this system, hoping to stifle Derby’s attacks and hit them on the break.

The midfield will be key to this match, with both sides looking to dominate possession. Derby’s creative players will have to deal with Hull’s high-energy press, which could determine the flow of the game.

Derby’s Defence vs Hull’s Attack:
Hull’s attacking trio has been in good form, and they will look to test Derby’s backline. The Rams' defense must stay disciplined and avoid being caught on the counter.

Set-Pieces:
Both teams have scored key goals from set-pieces this season. Whoever capitalizes on dead-ball situations could tip the balance in their favor.

Prediction:
With both teams eager for points and Derby’s strong home record, this match could be a tight contest. Hull’s form, especially away from home, suggests they will not go down without a fight. Expect a close, competitive game that could be decided by a moment of individual brilliance or a well-executed set-piece.

Prediction: Derby County 1-1 Hull City

Conclusion:

As Derby County welcomes Hull City to Pride Park, fans can expect an intense battle between two teams vying for position in the Championship. Will Derby take advantage of home support, or will Hull’s solid away form see them steal points? It’s all to play for on the 26th of October.

Team: Zetterström, Wilson, Nelson, Cashin, Forsyth, Adams, Goudmijn, Harness, Jackson, Mendez-Laing (C), Yates

Well, I expected to win today and was disappointed we didn't. That said I always expect to win...so what do I know.
Anyway I felt Hull moved the ball well without creating THAT much tbh...but it sapped our energy chasing them. Whilst again we didn’t quite seem at the races I accept Warneys explanation that we were tired...simply because we looked tired.
I've seen criticism on other websites of Warney's methods...and that this is the type of play we should expect with him at the helm. I personally dont accept that. I feel he knows what the standards SHOULD be... but we're still the paupers in this division and we have to accept that - whilst hoping that over time, playing style will improve....as will the finances that will enable that.
So for now whilst our style of play disappoints me at times - we are where we are due to circumstances.
On a positive note I was pleased the Dajaune Brown took his chance today and impressed...and hopefully his injury won't prove to be bad
So, we go again next weekend. Another game....and no doubt another battle....when hopefully we'll break our duck away from home. Cheers. Terry in Spain 🇪🇸

Well I was a bit under the weather today and spent the match shivering, wheezing and aching. I’m just happy to get home in one piece really. I was happy with a point. I’m not up to any more detailed analysis than that.

There's a lot of it about, vidal.

Some over here too but probably brought on by certain campaigning.

Kenzo looks as though he is still adjusting to the Championship and the game is passing him by a bit at the moment. From Warne’s comments yesterday it seems Osborn has some sort of long-term issue which means we can’t overload him. Otherwise I’m sure he would have played from the start. Adams pulled up briefly holding the back of his thigh in the second half but completed the game OK so it can’t have been a hamstring, I hope. It would be a disaster if he joined Ozoh on the sidelines.

A lack of precision in passing was evident again with many guilty. I thought Brown looked a real handful even apart from his goal whereas Yates just looked knackered. If Brown can be a viable alternative that can only help us.

Centre halves superb again, as per.

We are accumulating points and looking like we belong at this level. That’s good enough this season.

And I too remain buoyant. Which is important on a slowly sinking island..............🛟

In his post-match interview Ebou laughed off his "injury" saying that it was nothing and suggesting he was just having us all on - just enjoying the game, he said.

Osborne is another matter. Anyone know what the problem is?
