De Bruyne

Been thinking about him a fair bit recently as have been watching some of the previous seasons back and re-appraising just how good he was and also wondering how long we’ve got left of him with how much he’s struggled to get minutes recently due to his injuries.

He then puts in a shift and performance like that and you’ve just got to hope we get to experience him for a while longer yet. Such a wonderful footballer and slightly taken for granted at times, but he’s been our most important player for a decade.

Grealish and Doku were great tonight too. Going to enjoy going into the office in Nottingham tomorrow

No-one was creating clear cut chances in his absence.

He came on as sub (I think it was Spurs) and immediately made more impact in his <20 minutes than the rest of the team put together.

Him, Grealish and Doku all made a difference to the attacking play. Thought it was the best game Gundo has had too.

Grealish brought calmness into the side. Either mopping things up, or the defence played up to him knowing that he would slow things down and bring the ball up at his pace. Almost nonchalantly.

I agree about Gundo. Maybe it was because he didn't have to chase because Grealish did the running.

Hope we can build on this knowing what we can do now.

The other thing is it does show that Peps concerns previously about Foden in the middle may well still be warranted.

He’s been in the middle the last six games and I don’t think he’s been good at all. I’m hoping seeing either Grealish’s or De Bruynes performance galvanises him back to how he was playing last season at the very least.

What I have heard is that Phil has had personal problems as well as health issues. I have no idea what they are, nor whether this affected how Pep expects him to perform.

I do agree with you that he has been skying shots, and his normally intricate passing has dipped (I'm using his assist to Alvarez's goal against Real Madrid as an example benchmark).

Will the real Phil Foden please stand up? Soon?

It’s his positioning and passing for me. You can tell
within a few minutes whether he’s in the zone or if he’s hiding and he’s been doing the latter a lot recently.

Whatever it is, I hope he sorts himself out soon too as we really need the old him back. Although Grealish in the middle could well be the answer for now anyway!

This I 100% agree.
