Lucy Letby

After years of murmurings of disquiet about the evidence, and now a formal review, it looks very likely that Lucy Letby's conviction for murdering babies under her care will be overturned.

The crux of the matter is that, in the absence of any physical evidence of her harming babies, the prosecution relied on statistics to paint a picture that any other explanation was overwhelmingly unlikely. But we now hear that the statistical interpretation was deeply flawed: the central contention was that the chances of so many babies dying without malicious action were impossibly low. This has been re-evaluated, and now concluded that there was indeed a big spike in deaths, representing only a 1% probability, but that you would expect such a spike to occur *somewhere* each year due to the random distribution of such phenonema. Moreover, the panel of paediatricians has found that there were many significant systemic clinical failings in the understaffed unit, some of which greatly increased the risk of the conditions from which the babies died, and likely contributing to that tragic spike. The presentation of data leading to the conclusion that Letby was the only common denominator in all fatalities has also been undermined.

Anyway, I know this is off-topic, but I recall the case being discussed at the time of the trial, as we collectively recoiled in horror at the emotionless face of evil.

In conclusion:

1) If we had capital punishment in this country, there's no way she would have been spared that sentence. In that alternate reality, who knows if she would have had the good fortune of individuals pushing for further scrutiny of the conviction, before it was eventually picked up by official bodies.
2) Understanding what stats can tell us and what they can't is pretty important, not just in football discourse!

Three ex-bosses of Lucy Letby arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter

If I've read it right, this is the police digging in on their original case against Letby, based on claims that management failed to stop her, rather than responding to new evidence raising strong suggestions that Letby did not actively kill anyone, but rather deaths were down to poor care standards in the department.

Been a while since i read up on it, but i remember quite a lot of stuff that went with the statistics. Whether that justified 15 life sentences idk but some of the stuff i remember hearing made it hard to consider shes innocent.

Wasnt there doctors pretty much almost catching her red handed. The stalking of the victims parents etc, the notes.

Start the boats

posted 3 weeks, 2 days ago

We as a white Christian nation used to be a proud nation, crossing the channel in thousands of small boats to confront our enemies on the beaches. Now we sit in our homes cowering at some homeless blokes crossing the channel in toy boats whilst we kill our very own white Christian babies. What happened to our country?

Why have the authorities been trying to brush this under the carpet just to not offend the white christian community?
