Now that the dust has settled

Good 3 points yesterday, wins are always welcome and that really has guaranteed us staying up, no way are one of Leicester or Ipswich picking up 5 wins at this point.

As for the performance, I thought we were at very best - naff. Far too open, clumsy in possession and created little.

We were lucky that Garnacho shoots like Sandy posts - all wrong, high and wide of the mark. Onana with another assist for us - been a great keeper for us over the years.

Spence was superb again, Vicario had a great game and Maddison showed glimmers - that ball to Son in the first half that led to the Tel shot was an absolute peach.

Tel - I like what I see with this guy, he is still rough around the edges but some of his link up play is very encouraging, even at this early stage he is a huge improvement on Werner.

I find it interesting that when we were playing very well at the start of the season, but did not win despite being the better team (i.e. away games against Leicester, Newcastle etc) the narrative was "we lost. it's results that matter". And then when we win it's the performance that counts and not the result.

I think the negative brigade on here make some valid arguments about Ange and tactics, but they then let themselves down with their obsession with seeing absolutely everything as a negative just to suit their narrative.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Makes it difficult to not be negative when the whole season has been rubbish so far and the inconsistency has dated back to last season. If I see progress being made then that's when I'll become more positive under Ange. In order for that to happen we need to go on a good run and start doing things we haven't seen since the first 10 games.

Good and important win. This is only the start. With 90% of this squad fit again there is no reason we shouldn't be able to go on a good run in both the league and Europa. It's all about whether this manager will hold us back. There was nothing too exciting in our performance to get me to think that he won't however. But we shall see, his next hurdle to overcome is being able to go unbeaten in the league for 3 games. It's pitiful that we have not already, frankly.

Spence has suddenly turned into our best player, which is both encouraging for our recruitment and worrying at the same time. And Maddison when he's on it can make a difference. Shows this squad is honestly not as bad as people have made out, I've always said it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The squad is mostly fine - Ange just refused to use it properly at times, the omission of Spence looking far more stupid by the day. He has also completely ignored Reggie as well and let Udogie be run into the ground.

The CB position was and I believe still is short on numbers and CM is short of talent - although we’ve not given Gray a proper go there yet.

We have a lot of attacking talent.

I don’t ratege at all - absolutely no chance we win the Europa - I’ve already said I will leave the site if we win the Europa underge this season - that’s how confident I am that we will lose to the first semi competent side.

As for the league - I reckon 10th at best. If those 2 predictions pan out and Levy doesn’t get rid in the summer then I won’t be attending matches until he is gone - it will be sheer negligence. I might have to stop posting on here as well as come October/November time we will revert back to “wait until the injuries clear up”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, could have used Reggie more to ease the load on the others although I don't rate Reggie. He's like some hyper kid on the playground who doesn't have much quality. Deadwood in the squad.

I'm the same regarding Ange. I want the team to do well but I'm not convinced by him and he's lucky to still be in a job. I know the Ange Iners will pipe up about us Ange Outers if form carries on being better, but it doesn't change the fact the guy has been fortunate. Even yesterday he was fortunate. I still see the same problems exist that I've seen most of the season, that we give away too many good chances and our keeper has to be among the MOTM candidates to help us earn points.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely bang on!

I’d happily hold my hands up if we go on to succeed with Ange but I’m not going to blindly ignore failings just because we won. I like to focus on the performance rather than the result and to my mind, as you say, those same problems are there. I just don’t think Ange cares that Vic routinely faces 1 on 1s at least 3/4 times a game. It’s the reason for our inconsistency. Our results don’t hinge on how good we are going forward, they’re determined by how wasteful the opposition is and that just isn’t a winning formula. I came away from that result ultimately happy we won but depressed at the lack of change in openness.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I for one never really expected anything different from our performance. I slightly favoured Man United to win and instead we did and I'm happy with that, but I knew we were going to give away good chances and that in probability our keeper was going to have to pull out a few heroics. That's what transpired. It's predictable at this stage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep I predicted 1-1 pre game as United are no better than us and we both have absolute brain farts at the back. Fortunately for us Vic was inspired and Garnacho didn’t have his contacts in
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With Amad playing it might have been different for them. A draw wouldn't have been an unfair result.

Ipswich will be an interesting game. If we can win that with a good performance then it starts to look more promising. I'm predicting already though that Ipswich, like United, will have some great chances and Vic will have to save us again. That isn't exactly anything out of the usual in football but it's the way that the very good chances seem to be skewed in the opposition team's favour.

So enjoy it, don’t let others detract from that.

But you can’t expect everyone to be happy about exiting 2 cups in a week and then somewhat fortunately winning a league game against poor opposition to move up to 12th.

There were fans on here getting salty when Conte had us in the CL knockouts and 5th in the table - but they didn’t like the style

Fair enough, mate.

I think it's fair if the result yesterday is greeted with both enjoyment and realism. It's not so much negativity as it is realism, that's all. That's where I am anyway but obviously there are some who maybe veer too much to either side of that.

They also lack quality in a lot of areas.

The concern will be if we start slowly and go behind - they will pack out their defence and we look like we’ve lost a lot of our cutting edge recently

Yeah we were solid defensively against Brentford and it worked for us and I should think would do against Ipswich, although with more players back I imagine we'll be playing with an openness and going for it. If they're organised enough I'd be worried Dr Tottenham will be putting on his overcoat again.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think if Ange keeps ye pragmatic approach then Ipswich will play into our hands, they are desperate for wins and can’t sit back passively waiting for the game to come to them.

They also lack quality in a lot of areas.

The concern will be if we start slowly and go behind - they will pack out their defence and we look like we’ve lost a lot of our cutting edge recently
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah we were solid defensively against Brentford and it worked for us and I should think would do against Ipswich, although with more players back I imagine we'll be playing with an openness and going for it. If they're organised enough I'd be worried Dr Tottenham will be putting on his overcoat again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, two things we know for absolute certain are that Ipswich will work their bollox off and the crowd will be well up for it.

Need to start well
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually I forgot that Sandy said we will beat Ipswich, so there is really no need for us to worry at all.

He also said we will comfortably finish top 8 or higher this morning - even for him that was mental
