Postives From Yesterday

It was really good to have that winning feeling again yesterday! Here are my positives from the game:

- 3 points obviously!

- Kevin Danso – he looks like proper defender. Assuming Romero and VDV ever get fit again, we’re gonna have 3 quality centre backs to choose from (with Dragusin and Davies as backup).

- Djed Spence – I can’t wait to see him play in his natural position. What an absolute star.

- Tel – I was disappointed with some of the chances that he missed, but he worked his socks off and he really shows that he cares and wants the team to do well. Not bad from someone that supposedly rejected us initially!

- Vicario – he made some great saves and showed real leadership. I had a good view of him from my seat in the second half and I was really impressed with how he was encouraging his team mates (and berating them when necessary). I’d forgotten how important he is to the team!

- The strongest bench that we’ve had for a long time with the likes of Odobert, Kinsky, Sarr, Bisouma and Udogie.

Okay, fair enough, understood. I get that he has said that before, I don’t deny that, but if you’re going to acknowledge defensive frailties, really the first step is to eradicate them but I don’t think we have, and it’s been like this for over a year now. My point is that instructing a rabid, almost bloody-thirsty press means that you’re vacating positions on the pitch and leaving players isolated and it happens all over the pitch. Regardless of whether he says he’s aware of the defensive issues or not, the stats show that he’s asking his players to overcommit with virtually no insurance policy. You could argue that yes, that’s defending from the front, but it’s also suicide if you don’t change that policy depending on the game state. His tactical set up feels like watching an under 11s match where all he kids just chase the ball and move out of position.

Also, I don’t pay an awful lot of attention to what he says post match. It’s mostly bitter garbage. The way he treats reporters is appalling so the comments you’re referring to read mostly as a bitter man that just doesn’t like being told the truth because he can talk about working on team shape without the ball but we’re seeing very little evidence of it. I’ve seen so many games where we’ve conceded two or three at home and I kid you not, his post match reaction is to accuse the forward line of being wasteful in front of goal and not holding the teams defensive shape to account.

It’s a fair comment to say he does probably work on defensive stuff, I freely admit that, but I really don’t think it’s working. It’s all opinions though. It’s just not what I believe success is built on. I can’t think of one club side in the history of the game whose success was built entirely on out scoring the opposition. A tight defence is what every top side has ever had in common and we’re so far away from that, and we were even with VDV and Romero in place.

I love it. Most journos are skumbags. They deserve it.

You just immediately contradicted yourself.

Besides, in the Brentford game we saw a counter attacking style. He tried sitting back in the cup semi against Liverpool and everyone moaned that we went out without a fight etc. He can never win with some people (yourself included apparently) who will accuse him of being clueless whatever he does or says.

Of course I have to agree that it's not working out you look at the results this season. Though I would point to the goal difference and say it's not all awful, doomed to failure stuff.

To the list of players that obviously performed well including Spence, Vicario, and Maddison: I would add
Bergvall who was always going forward and really was the maker of the winning goal by Maddison.

Tel worked hard and could have done better with some half chances. Son and Kulusevski ran into double teams all of the time and were too slow to pass the ball off.
Davies is playing better in defence than ever. He's a warrior for Spurs.

I’d agree with you if we were winning and putting in decent performances but we ain’t, so it just makes him look stupid and arrogant.

You don’t want to hear my explanation, you’d rather hear that I don’t like defending, we’re open, that we have this ridiculously high line, that we get torn apart in every game. That’s the narrative.”

It’s much easier for you to say I don’t care about defending, set-pieces, and we don’t work on defending, but, the majority of our work is what we do when we don’t have the ball.”

That doesn’t mean just defending, that also means pressing the opposition really aggressively so we get the ball higher up and create more chances.”

More than long enough is five years.

18 months is three and a half years short of that. Plenty of time left for Ange yet. Less Jibba Jabba from the Ange out mob.

Every team in history that has won trophies has outscored the opposition whether in leagues or cup competitions.

One of the strangest comments ever on JA606.

He hasn't though. He needs three more window. 3rd yougest squad in the league. Just have a look at the turnover of players since he arrived. Lost Kane too. Someone who Poch had for years and could win a bean with. But according to some, he was a SUCCESS.

They don't even know the meaning of word.
