DPL v Bromley

Bromley are at their highest position in the table since they won 2 out of their first 3 which they followed with a long unsuccessful streak which ended significantly when they unexpectedly, but deservedly beat Rovers in late October.

We failed against them because, amongst other attributes, they were physically big and strong. Apart from Street, the players we have at our disposal are not significantly different from those we put out in that game. So they will just have to pay better and will, we might hope, be better prepared to do a good deal better than Wimbledon, their defeated opponents on Saturday.

In Street there is now somebody in the middle taller, and just as strong as Ironside, who does not seem to engage quite as closely with his markers and should be better able to compete with defenders the size of Bromley’s. Speed against big men is also a useful attribute and the whole team must be ready to run and run.

I don’t think that I am confident enough to believe that we will be able to shine as brightly as we did against Newport, but I would be happy if we could just shoot a bit straighter

We went into the home game on a good run which resumed after we’d played them which suggests we were just not good enough and of course since then Bromley have improved overall, so it will be tough. I feel more confident of our general ability to win than for a long time, but perhaps a draw would be the sensible guess, so that’s what I’ll opt for. 1-1 (Molyneux/Street).

Thinking a long the same lines but I'll go 2-2. Gibson, Street

I'll be optimistic yet again and say a 1-2 away win. I'm not sure with our current shot attempt conversion rate that we can score two against their recent defensive record, but I'm just wishing we keep on a roll until the end of the season. Street to score (Pauline says!), and hopefully for the second Gibson gets one on target with enough power and accuracy to score.

It was surprising how one-sided this was and over the years I remember so many similar games when Rovers have never managed to win. Unsophisticated bombardment of the opposition goal may be exciting, but Rovers inability to find the net is a concern.

The attacking spirit was encouraging, getting the ball quickly out of defence into attack, but Olowu’s, McGrath’s and Sterry’s injuries are worrying.

I did not think our finishing could get worst than last Saturday, but I was wrong. We should have been 2-0 up before they scored, and by the end of the game, all forwards and some others had missed good chances to score or at least really test their goalkeeper.
I did not expect Billy to shoot wide twice near the end when I would have expected him to score.
Today Arsenal were just the opposite - known for creating many chances and not scoring , put 7 past PSV from 15 shots (at one stage it was 5 from 7 shots)!
