In a time when footballers are driven by money, and clubs buy their way to success, how wonderful it is to see a real football club, led by the best English manager of his generation, supported by the only fans to match us for passion and loyalty, claim the EFL trophy.
My late Grandfather used to take me to see the Magpies when I was a kid, and he even forgave me for supporting Leeds. He got me a ticket to the Cup Final in 1974 against Liverpool, so my heart swelled today to see the Toon win at Wembley at last.
For some footballers, even in this modern era, the club and the supporters mean everything to them. Dan Burn epitomised the spirit of the club and Newcastle's captain, Bruno Guimares, said it more eloquently than anyone:
"I don't have any words. It's the best day of my life. For them [the fans] it's like the World Cup. People have grown up and not seen us as champions.
My first year as captain of this club and it's one of the best days. This is unbelievable.
This is my second home. We are making history. Some day when I leave this club I want the fans to sing my name the way they do to Alan Shearer. He texted me before the game. I'm so emotional today."
Football has a beating heart and today, it's draped in a black and white scarf. Well done, Newcastle United. And yes, Bruno, they will sing your name for years to come.

Calum, it would be just dandy if you could let us know which club you support. Your profile doesn't seem to let us know which dictatorship puts money into your club?
The majority of the top tiers of football in the UK are swimming in the financial cesspit. Dodgy owners abound, encouraged by dodgy football authorities such as FIFA, the FA, the FL. Varying levels of "dodgy" of course, but all with vested interests and big wads of cash in their banks while ignoring the fans.
I was happy to see Newcastle fans enjoying their day in the sun, but wouldn't have ignored the fact that to get that day, their club has got in bed with some really dodgy owners.

I agree, in principle, with the post. Maybe not the more romantic notion of who owns the club - but for the fans, nobody in Saudi owns them. They've finally achieved some success, been a long time coming. Fair play to them.

That's where I am, VOF. Every club has dodgy owners. The bigger the club, the dodgier the owner. Russian oligarchs, Saudi Sheiks, Emirati oil barons, American billionaires. Where did their money come from? How do they run their states or their businesses? Who do they persecute? Who is exploited by them? I get the annoyance of fans, but at the heart of it is a football club and its fans. Toon fans deserve this moment and they showed us what it meant to them. Maybe you can't separate the politics from the game, but every so often something wonderful happens and like the sun breaking out in the middle of February over Beeston Hill, you just have to catch your breath and smile.

Well done to Newcastle United.
However, I echo the sentiments made by others above that this victory is somewhat tainted by their ownership situation.

totally agree farkness... but the article made it sound like a roy of the rovers type job... it wasn't, they're super rich and was only a matter of time before they join the few clubs in England that actually do win stuff

Staying out of the politics of the rights /wrongs of ownership I do think it was great for the Newcastle fans to finally get to celebrate something. Not sure I will be saying the same in 20 years if theyve spent billions and taken over world football for two decades.

Not into politics and don't have much money,(don't expect any help from politition's!)but there's no way I'm going to blame the fans of a club for their owners!..
