Crazy how fast time has gone by. For me the lockdown was a complete mistake and a measure that should never have been taken. Easily the worst 16 months (until June/July 2021 when we reopened) since war time back in 1939.
Remember those on furlough, after the event? As well as the inevitability of what was going to happen in Britain, for the eerie time prior? I think we all knew from about mid-March onwards we were doomed. You only have to remember the news from Italy pouring in, to realise we were headed in that direction.
I genuinely hated every second of Lockdown, especially before the football restarted and we all had something to watch. The days were just torturous and mundane! As for footie, Germany restarted first and I remember everyone scrambling around to tune in to Dortmund in the Bundesligs to see what Haaland was all about.
I won’t lie, I didn’t always adhere to the rules myself, but I never caught the virus until 2022 so I didn’t spread it.
What are everyone else’s memories of that horrible period?
Also, to all those who perished because of the pandemic
RIP

We didnt know what we were dealing with and with about 250k deaths soft action was not an option.
Also, it had to be society wide because otherwise it simply didnt work.
No one can say it was unnecessary because they cannot say what the outcome from an alternative would have been, especially in a densely populated country like the UK. Comparison with the likes of Sweden are completely false as they have a population of about 11m vs UKs 70m and both countries have a similar land area.

Think Sweden is nearly double the size actually

I didn’t bother with all of the rules. Had parties etc and nothing happened as a result.

You say nothing happened but it is pretty clear you are dumber than a box of frogs, was this the case prior to Covid as well?

The viewpoint I don't understand is the one that says that lockdown, masks, one-way systems in supermarkets etc were nothing to do with a virus but were just a means of 'controlling' the population.
It's just such a nonsensical, childish idea that I can't believe so many people believe it. And they all think they're so clever and edgy and rebellious, when in reality they are simply very stupid and very selfish.

UK is about the same. England is about half Sweden and accounts for about 58m of the 70m UK population. Either way, the comparison is false

A quick Google says Sweden is almost double the size of the UK.
