San Siro WOW WOW WOW

Last week I was over in Italy and after a few days in Turin, got the train to Milan as part of the trip. Luckily enough I got to attend Inter vs Udinese at the San Siro. Going into the game, Inter were (and still are) top whilst Udinese sat in tenth position. Now I’ve seen plenty of Inter games on TV over the last 20-30 years, whilst the stadium seemed impressive I was never blown away by the atmosphere.

How wrong I was!

Firstly- the stadium isn’t just impressive, it’s actually by far and away the best ground I’ve ever visited. Coming out pitch side (I was sat in the bottom tier) you are literally blown away by how imposing the stands and the roof look. You almost feel like Russell Crowe in Gladiator it’s so huge. There’s something just beautiful and iconic about the San Siro that can’t be put into words.

Secondly- the atmosphere was like that of a UCL final. I’ll put some context behind that, because at HT the score was 2-0 to Inter who looked totally in control. A standard second half, during which Inter were in full control suddenly shifted when Udinese made it 2-1. For the last 15 minutes it was Udinese with the chances, banging on Inter’s door and MY WORD the crowd got behind their side. When the FT whistle went, the noise was incredible.

If you haven’t been, go to the San Siro for a match. You will not regret it.

Shame I didn't know you'd be in Turin, I could've hooked you up with my lad.

I thought San Siro was being demolished.
Inter & Milan are looking at building a new stadium (each) aren't they ?

Yeah the guy next to me said so. It’d be a crime against football to knock down the San Siro.

You must go!

To do a stadium tour or watch a match?

I went to the san siro to watch United vs Inter and I was blown away by the atmosphere and sound that was created in it.

I’ll always remember them reading out the players names and the crowd finished it off with the surname and it was what I would imagine the colosseum sounding like. It was really cool. You knew you somewhere different at that point.

That and the €18 large pints (this was 15 years ago!!)

My favourite stadium. I dont mind thats its a little run down however the toilets are a joke.

Went there for the Milano derby a few years ago (1st meeting of the season) and it was just after AC had won the league. AC were the home team and the TIFO they did was amazing, easily the best Iv ever seen.

Did the stadium tour which was mixed, its a free non guided tour, I do prefer a tour guide and half of their stuff is kept at the museum and not included in the tour sadly which is a huge let down.

The game itself was great, the stadium is so vast and it is loud. the ultras behind the goal did a great job, genuinely however the atmosphere was a good level below an old firm (granted there is bias there), no where near the same tension amongst the fans I was around. also in and around the stadium before and after the game there is no fan segregation which I was surprised at.

weather that day was amazing and it was an evening kick off which all made it a bit more special.

Strangely ended up meeting the band that were supporting Harry Styles (they were rangers fans watching the old firm that day before the milan derby) that I ended up bumping gums with as we were in a celtic fan pub.

Would much rather they found a way to renovate the stadium rather than a new one. Its prob the most iconic looking stadium of all time IMO.
