For me we need to sell one of these this summer to be able to fund needed attackers. Garnacho is very inconsistent but you expect that at 20. Still has 10 goals and 10 assists this season. Mainoo for me doesn’t offer much in this team. He’s not midfielder and not a 10. Bruno is far better and if we get Cunha and other midfielders, where does he fit? He is a bit over rated tbh. I’d take 60m for him no trouble if it meant we could finance a Gyokeres.

I’d be disappointed if we let Mainoo go already, but I could live with both being sold.
Garnacho, goal and assist aside, was absolutely bobbins today, once again. He contributes to the bottom line sporadically, but his link up play, short passing and shooting are all somewhere between poor and bang average.
Vs. attacking mids and wingers, he’s 97th percentile in shots, but 20th percentile in shots on target. *5th percentile* on goals/shot.
And he’s *15th percentile* in expected assists.
All in all, that’s abominably, inexcusably wasteful.

Is it inexcusably wasteful for a 20 year old though?

For a player who has been playing senior football for three seasons and has 130 appearances, for me, yes.
I’m probably overreacting because he’s so intensely frustrating, but I can’t watch him at the moment. He makes me want to switch games off.
If we got a sizeable offer, which we could book as pure profit and would allow us to invest in a remotely consistent and dependable replacement with an actual brain (see Brentford’s second goal today), I’d take it.

Don't get me wrong, I literally wrote a couple of days ago in another thread that his football brain might be what holds him back longer term, so I'm on board with that concern.
But I do think that as a consequence of general frustration at what we've been 'treated' to for the last several years, we're sometimes losing sight of the fact that players this age are usually introduced slowly into a functioning team, rather than thrown in early and relied on to perform week in, week out like seasoned pros.
That Garnacho has so many games under his belt is more a failure to properly build the squad in a way that would allow him to feature less and iron out his game bit by bit without the enormous pressure and scrutiny of the present circumstance. Ditto Mainoo.

We should not be looking to sell them when you can get rid of dross like Sancho and Rashford

Yeah but Sancho is hardly worth a packet of hobnobs now.

Both are top young players, and if they played for another team, there would be plebs on here making articles saying we need to break the bank to sign them.
Both can develop into top players. That is obvious. Would be more than foolish to sell either at this stage. Mostly because I don’t trust the club to invest the proceeds into better players.
Which is why I expect at least one to be sold this summer, and go and smash it elsewhere to make the club look even more foolish, because this is what Manchester United is now.

Mainoo is more excessively surrounded by hyperbole - especially (and typically) by the more numpty-conversant on these forums - but Garnacho does look like the far more genuine option. At least he does as a contributor to the OVERALL team dynamic.
