DPL Final Results

Here are the final results with an amazing triumph for Mooli. As Micky remarked he made two 100% predictions in succession to pip him, the long-time leader, by a single point. Congratulations.

For comparison I've republished the 23/24 Final Table. Collectively we scored 0 in the final game then as we lost to Crewe compared with the 47 in the Notts County match and like this season we scored more points when Rovers were being successful in the run-ins.

Sounds like I might be the baby of the group at 77! I've also been away from my birthplace in Askern for nearly 60 years but Rovers have always been a constant in my life. This group keeps me well informed and it's always a pleasure to read to previews and comments from everyone, even if we stray away from the subject occasionally. I too have a Championship return ambition for Rovers. I think GM will get us in the mix next season so no intention of moving from Hope as yet.
Enjoy the break and hope we'll meet again some sunny day in August.

Just one final deviation. How things change. Speaking of Hope. I used to visit Edale and the Hope valley as a boy. Visiting the Blue John mines on school trips and some caving and climbing. Apart from the attraction of 8 pubs in Castle ton there was the climb up Man Tor. I read this week it's now an issue for residents as 1 million people climbed it last year. Day and night apparently!

Living in Doncaster and working in Sheffield as I did in 1960 -62 and then off and on into the late 60s, travelling by train and "rambling" (and drinking beer) in Derbyshire was one of my most popular activities. When I was young Mam Tor seemed more like a brisk walk compared with Helvellyn and Scafell Pike which is which were on the itinerary of our Geography expeditions from school. Even in those days, rambling in Derbyshire seemed very popular.

I must say that there is no better boost for morale and a happy summer of anticipation than a promotion, is there? Playing a range of different clubs adds to the interest with a bit more scope for going to away matches too in my case.

You lads have made me a little nostalgic about Godszone as I call my birth county to people in the colonies. I suppose I “left” Yorkshire in 1963 when I went to Southampton University (please, no comments about the current team that I supported at The Dell from 63-66!), but as they say “one can take someone out of Yorkshire, but you cannot take Yorkshire out of their soul”. I feel the same about Doncaster and the Rovers - as I suspect you all do as most no longer live in Yorkshire. I still have two nephews and their wives who live in Doncaster, my sister lives in London and my brother in the Cotswolds. Another nephew lives in Bristol, and one in Northern Ireland. So, the family is somewhat widespread.
Many have visited over here in the colonies, and we’ll be welcoming a Doncaster couple this autumn, the eldest nephew on Pauline’s side and his wife.
On to next season; upset that Olowu will not stay even though we got promotion. To think that two seasons ago not many of us thought too much of him, but Grant got the best out of him, as he has done for some loanees. I think Olowu must have had an approach from some club before he was injured. Hopefully, Anderson and Faulkner will sign so we are well covered at centre-back.
My wishes before next season:
1. We sign a good goalkeeper
2. Ironside is back to his form in 23-24
3. Hurst returns and meets the potential he showed in his first season
4. We stay even more injury free than this season
5. Finally, we get promoted to the Championship
OK, I have drunk some good wine tonight! (Italy and Greece)
A happy summer to you all - and see you next season. We are off to France on Sunday, 25 May. Hope there are not too many strikes as we have had on some trips to France.

If Charlton and Wycombe can get into the League One play offs there's definitely hope for Rovers next season!

Charlton have made the League One final against Richie Wellens team! Who do we want to win...
Who knows for League Two - I think I'd like Notts County to beat Wimbledon, and maybe Walsall desersrve to win the final??

The first leg of the Charlton v Wycombe was very dour with Charlton niggling all the way through and their history with Rovers - the play-off defeat plus the earlier game their fans influenced the ref to abandon, means I very much favour Orient. They have done well on a small budget with good use of loans and were very enterprising in their games v Stockport. Either way it leaves one London fixture. Having said that my Orient-supporting friend tells me they have acquired a new US owner and will be moving from Brisbane Road. Wellens has been loyal and now lives in London.

I can’t say I feel Walsall deserve anything out of this season, it’s AFCW by default.
