Chelsea v United

Predict the outcome of this PL game at The Bridge. Could be interesting with United in 16th place who can hardly buy a win in the PL and playing their EL Cup Final and CL qualifier in Spain on Wednesday night, and Chelsea in 5th and in a run of good form, hoping for points, goals and other results going their way tonight, for their CL qualification bid via the PL.

As PL results apparently dont matter for United anymore, I reckon it could be 4-0. If Chelsea hold back a bit for some reason. Which I am sure they won't.

Hasn’t Amorim said players still need to earn their spot for the final lineup? That’s a bit worrying but hopefully we get through tonight without any injuries, that’s basically all we need to care about.

This is a huge game for Chelsea with Forest up next for them. Would love it if we f-cked up Chelsea’s CL chances.

I think, as a manager, he's right to state that spots are up for grabs. In all honesty there are as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, but does he really mean that, or has he already got an idea of the team in his head? he needs to motivate his team whoever he puts out, but I'll be surprised if next Wednesday's team is already decided.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think he probably has his team in mind but also there could be one or two changes. I think his biggest consideration will be Hojlund. I'd be erring on the side of leaving him out and playing Garnacho, Bruno and Amad as the front three.

I actually meant surprised if next Wed's team isn't already decided

My feeling is always the same - you can't wrap players in cotton wool. We don't have such a great squad that we can readily swap a lot of players around also.
Whilst I find it to envisage anything other than a loss tonight, I would almost prefer a drab draw than an amazing performance, given our penchant for inconsistency..................

United will need a CF on Wednesday to get the ball to. Hojlund is crap at it it but we have no other options really. Especially as JZ it seems is off to Milan.

Kinsang - I agree. Sometimes you need your players match ready too. It's a balance and really one that the manager can't win with.

RB&W - If Hojlund wasn't crap then I'd agree but if we have to have someone up there that can't hold the ball up at least get someone there that actually gets chances for himself. Garnacho would also drift left which would present the Spurs CBs with a problem IMO.

What I'd do, with Spurs having injuries in midfield, is try to get on top there and perhaps have more control there to settle into the game. That's where perhaps Mainoo could come in.

I'm not even going to try and have a go at what we should try tactically, just simplify it and hope enough of our players turn up on the day and show the form they are capable of - that we show our EL side, rather than our EPL side.

i dont believe a goup of players can collectively switch off for one competition and then switch on for another 3 days later. Footballers always want to win. One is obviously harder than the other and United are nowwhere good enough for the harder one.

I don't think it's a switching off as such. It's possibly some indecision caused by some players thinking they'd better not do too much in case they miss a more important game.

Possibly Amorim has fed this by obviously targeting the Europa. I like him but he needs much better results next season.

Winning is a habit for football teams. As is losing.

United have forgotten how to win a PL game.
