Gary Lineker

For me at least the guy is a bit of a hero. I see he’s leaving the BBC this week for good due to having the temerity to voice his opinion on the genocide happening in Gaza right now. I’m sure in decades to come people like him will be vindicated once the truth about what’s happening is accepted far more widely than it is now.

He’s been incredibly good for the BBC in the 30 or so years he’s been there and it’s a shame it has to end like this. Anyway, if you’re reading this Gary (are you Red Russian in disguise?) thanks for standing up for your beliefs 👏

You are a pathetic lowlife Robb

Let me guess, you support the genocide? Perhaps you’re projecting?

Grinch has a few screws loose. He wanted to meet up at WHL, but never showed up, after stalking me for months.

BBC held private meetings with Israeli General.

But, Lineker is the problem, right?

Condemnation of the genocide in Gaza is pretty universal in the UK, the only supporters appear to be Right Wing nutters and Islam haters.

The Government seem to be doing very little to reflect the the thoughts of the electorate on this.

'Genocide' has very concrete legal definitions, and often doesn't strictly apply to policies and campaigns that are nevertheless large-scale crimes against humanity. Sometimes people want to use the word to convey the extent of their moral horror even if it doesn't meet those narrow conditions. This is not one of those instances. We have mountains of evidence of indiscriminate, mass annihilation of human life. Of systematic destruction - by bulldozers as well as bombs - of Palestinian schools, hospitals, mosques and churches, cultural centres and historic buildings; bakeries, power and water infrastructure; entire neighbourhoods razed to the ground. We've seen a million acts of humiliation, brutalisation and extrajudicial execution. We've seen people instructed to move out of their homes ahead of offensives, only for the refugee camps to which they have fled to be bombed as well. The sum of these acts is not just a destruction of civilian lives on an unfathomable scale. It's also the eradication of the possibility of civilised life and Palestinian culture in neighbourhood after neighbourhood, city after city. But that's not all. We also have hundreds of statements on the record, from senior military figures and government officials making plain that this is the strategic objective of the campaign. It's not the defeat of Hamas - which Netanyahu's governments have directly funded for years, and quietly acknowledged to be an extremely politically useful adversary. It's not the return of the hostages, whose families are at the vanguard of Israeli protests against the war on Gaza.

In the early 20th-century roots of Zionism, it was a complex movement with very different strands. There were Zionists who envisaged Jews and Arabs living peacefully beside each other, enjoying equal rights in a secular state. There were others who wanted to drive the Arabs from what would be a ethnic state for Jews alone. Netanyahu's father was a key figure in the latter movement. Today, in coalition with openly racist, far right parties that are explicit about their vision of an Arab free greater Israel (including the West Bank), he is realising his father's vision.
