I think it is very unfair for a team like Sunderland on 78 pts to go up if they win the final compared to Sheffield United's 90 points.
They should have a rule whereby if the gap between the 3rd and 4th is bigger than say 12 points there should not be any playoffs - Your thoughts ??
Playoffs rule ?

Should be a different format. 3rd should go straight to the final. 4th go into the semi final and play the winner of 5th v 6th. Could also do 3rd in final, 4th face 7th and 5th face 6th, winners face each other in a single leg to determine who faces 3rd.

Why should it, four weeks with a game would give third a massive disadvantage.
Nothing wrong with format at all, everyone knows the rules.
And if the clubs dont like it, they can change it 🤷🏻♂️

I think it’s unfair and there should be a simple rule. As an example, DRS in F1 a car has to be within 1 second of the car in front to be able to take advantage of using DRS. Adopting this method to the playoffs, the team in 4th place can enforce a playoff if they finish the season within 3 points of 3rd place. If 4th place is 4 points or more behind 3rd place then there is no play off and 3rd is automatically promoted.

You wont see a more poor display from a manager.
Far too many signings in Jan, far too many subs today, far too defensive, despite being a miles better side.
He’ll get sack, without question.

If truth be told Shef Utd fans will probably have a happier time next season than Sunderland and will definitely witness more victories for their side than Leeds and Burnley combined.... We've got to hope our recruitment is spot on to give us the best chance of not coming
straight back down... now the hard work really starts!!!

In terms of fairness agree with some of the comments here, but the playoffs generate excitement and money ( not necessarily in that order,) but everyone knows the state of play at the beginning of the season and not sure Wembley would be happy with there could be a play off or not and the problems that could cause.

As play off finals go that last 15 minutes at least was great entertainment resulting in an almost fairytale ending as Sunderland come back from the dead and shock the living daylights out of Shef Utd who had looked so comfortable but that's football at its unpredictable best and why we are all addicted to it.

I thought Sheff Utd were mentality monsters. Should have won the game comfortably but they completely blown it this season.
Could be tough for them next season. What made them spend £10m on Cannon.
Sheff Utd fans don’t deserve to go up when they don’t bother going to games anyway

As I said, 1 leg ties, maybe two for the semi final, and bring the final closer. The 9 day gap was a bit silly tbh although it gave both sides a decent gap to rest players and hope any injured players can return.

There's some on here who would have been dying for us to gazump them for Cannon, I'd imagine. Think it could be a really tough season for them next season, looking at their squad.

The problem here is that people think the playoffs is a continuation of the league.
It's not, it's actually a whole different, all be it small, competition, that teams qualify for in the same way as the champions league or the Europea league.
And like the Europea or Europa conference it has a rule where the winer is awarded a place in another, better competition next year.
If the final of either of those was played against two teams from the same country and one was loads of points ahead of the other you wouldn't say just give them the trophy cause they ate doing better, same thing applies here
