Decisions

With talk of a £100m bid for Bruno coming from Saudi, if prior to the Europa League final I had given you these two options, which would you choose?
1) Win Europa, qualify for UCL and pocket £100m but Rúben has no time to implement his system or
2) Sell Bruno for £100m (the same amount we’d get from UCL) which is reinvested in to the squad, no European football but Rúben gets much longer to implement his vision due to free midweeks.

Both option give us an extra £100m in revenue, but 2 gets a huge wage off the books and gives Rúben plenty of time to work on his system.

Get the feeling the club will accept this bid. It will be a business decision which is taken over any footballing considerations unfortunately.

I don’t think people realise how bad things are going to get. The finances now at the club are quite simply untenable.

Uniteds balance sheet, combined with the level of business they will do now with no European football, reduced match day takings, reduced sponsorship deals and rising levels of debt that will need refinancing before 2027, honestly, the club is absolutely goosed for the next 3-5 years when it comes to spending baring some sort of miracle next season where we qualify for the CL.

If the owners are not careful and realistic now, there could well be a Leeds United full style meltdown.

People don’t realise it yet, but this is going to get very very bad for us, both financially, and therefore ultimately, on the pitch.

20 years of Glazer mismanagement, and financial pillaging of the club we all love, is now unfolding in front of our eyes.

This team would thrash the United team, agreed.

I don't really see how we could turn down £100m for Bruno to be honest.

If the new guys in charge of recruitment and football decisions can't vastly improve the squad with £100m from a Bruno sale + other available funds from the default transfer kitty & other sales then we deserve to fight relegation battles rather than for league & cup titles.

Building a competent and competitive squad isn't rocket science; plenty of other teams seems to be able to do it on less of a budget & sporting pull than even our tattered finances & plundering reputation permit.

I'm also a little bored of people banging on about "the system". Xabi Alonso has bagged the Real Madrid gig off an unbeaten Bundesliga winning (and Europa League finalist) campaign playing 3-4-3. They lost that Europa League final to an Atalanta team playing 3-4-3. Southgate was penalty kicks away from winning England a major trophy for over half a century playing 3-4-3. Tuchel won the CL with Chelsea playing 3-4-3. Palace just won their first major trophy in their entire history playing 3-4-3. Amorim himself established himself as one of the most coveted young coaches in Europe with his 3-4-3.

We need better players.Whether Amorim is the right man or not, we have massive, glaring issues with the squad technically, physically and mentally.

We shouldn’t sell Bruno under almost any circumstances this summer. We’d have been relegated without him his year.

Everyone says that. In reality, most teams adjust and share the burden of performance rather than over-rely on one player. If we are going to be a midtable team we should at least have a good reason for it.

No we wouldn’t. That’s exaggeration at it’s finest.

Nothing from the last 10 years gives me confidence to believe we’d improve through recruiting by selling Bruno.

I would put money down and say the midfielders currently with us will collectively perform better than whatever miracle Bruno is apparently giving us. Players have have been losing "world class" players for decades and winning easily. I've watched teams with the most talented players fall apart from over reliance on one player.

Might have a point, but the rest aren’t very good.
