Sensible transfers

The excellent Tifo team has released a video analysing United's needs in the transfer market and suggesting some options (bearing in mind lack of funds). Criteria were coming into prime years, proven in PL or against PL opposition, and not injury prone.

They picked out the following:

Striker:
Goncalo Ramos (good at generating space to get shots off, not a guaranteed starter at PSG)

10s:
Cunha
Mbeumo

Midfield:
Ideal - Baleba (with Bruno money if we sold him)
More affordable - Elliott Anderson

Defender:
Harwood-Bellis

PSG are in a very advantageous position when it comes to hoovering up elite young talent. Grotesque wealth so they can outbid most clubs. And you get to play in the CL and definitely win domestic titles while also developing in a league that isn't as physically intensive as the PL or as high profile as two or three other leagues. It's a rewarding stepping stone.

That's not to moan about our disadvantageous position. We had so many advantages relative to our domestic competition, and squandered them all.

If any mother team with European football wants Mbeumo, they’ll get him.

Newcastle for instance would be a much better move for him.

Not how it works. Players and their wives want to live in London or Cheshire. The North East actually has some gorgeous coastal towns tbf but it's not really a celeb hotspot.

CL football obviously gives Newcastle a big advantage when it comes to appealing to Mbeumo. But that's one factor. Wages - I don't know if we can offer higher. Project - can we sell the idea that we have a very exciting blueprint for the rebuild and that he will be a cornerstone? Does a chat with Amorim make him feel that this is the coach who will take him to the next level? Romance - does Manchester United still exert a special draw? Did Mbeumo have Ruud van Nistelrooy pyjamas as a kid?

Last year Yoro had the option of going to clubs in an objectively far better position, but he chose United.

We've been hearing this no sense for years. Depends on the individual player and also their family.

I assume Amorim will have given a range of positions / names of what he requires, so hopefully we can get in what he needs.
I'm not too concerned about individual names - you never really quite know how a player will turn out until he arrives at the club etc and for me , it's just hoping these players can both settle in quickly and the team as a whole can gel into what Amorim wants them to be.

I just hope that Amorim can meet expectation and fulfil the potential he has shown from Sporting. That is actually my main concern - I think we might have what should appear to be a decent transfer window.

Yeah, it’s pretty much preferences, if important to the player, playing for a team in European comp, or a good team rules us out, but we still are a huge club, not the draw of the Spanish two but still a big draw.

Yeah it's like people saying Atalanta would have far greater pull than AC Milan? Would they really though?
