Mitrovic

Quite a few rumours that we could be in for Mitrovic this Summer.

I don't think he'd be a bad signing at the right price even though he's 30. We lack some experience up there and it's not like he's ancient.

One to keep an eye on perhaps?

Mitrovic?
Spent two years in a dogshiiit league where the standard is close to league 2 probably worse, and he's linked to a club that is trying to move up the PL table.

I'm in

as Fergie once said about John Hartson when Kiddo was trying to convince him to buy him... Brian, do you really actually think Hartson is a Man United standard player?

I’d worry about his ability to get in behind, but he’s not the worst option at all.

He has a nose for goal.

I don’t think he we are buying him so he can bum you winston, but as you say for footy reasons wouldn’t be the worst option

Ideal scenario would be a sure thing to score lots of goals this season and still be our leading goal scorer when we've had time to develop the rest of the team into title-challenging quality. I think we all know this is unlikely to be achievable.

In that case, here are the options I can see:

1. Young striker who isn't yet prolific but looks very likely to become a top player. Think: next big thing from South America about to make their first move to Europe. £20m to £50m depending on how generational they are.
2. Young striker who is cheap and promising but not elite. Let's put Delap in this category since he rejected us!
3. Experienced striker who is an obvious upgrade on Hojlund but very unlikely to be our first choice striker if/when we're as good as we aspire to become. £50m-£60m or equivalent in wages if he's available on a free (Jonathan Davis).
4. Good striker who is on the downward slope of his career on a short contract. Mitrovic.
5. Talented player approaching his best years, but not getting minutes at a super club. Goncalo Ramos, Brahim Diaz.

For me, scenarios 1, 2 and 5 are most attractive. You either invest for the future or if you can't do that, go for a player who in the short term can give you a bit of stability, depth and experience but doesn't limit your ability to invest in the player who will really take you forward.

5 for me, Ramos a great shout and throw in a couple of 1s .

5 stars for physicality but don't think he's the most clinical finisher.

Good point. Just had a look at his stats and he has 38 goals in the PL from 368 shots!

And 9 of those goal are penalties.

Take away the penalties and he has a conversion rate of about 1 in 12. Almost as bad as Garnacho.
