Delap is beneath Nico, wont displace him...

BUT good enough to keep Nico on his toes.

Delap a solid outlet from the bench when the game is winding down for winning fouls with back to play (slowing down matches), attacking crosses, potent box movement, roughing markers up and headed flick-ons to link-play, similar to Giroud in some respects. Covers Nico' areas of improvement. Invaluable squad member role... low risk, high reward type signing.

Id argue it would be more effective to use Delap the hold up player who gets more of your players into the final third with him would be better suited to starting games with Nico coming on later in the game against tired legs to stretch the defence, also if its a game that your winning he can more effective when he has more space to run into.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He also adds an aerial ball into the box option which, when faced with a deep sitting defence, is a very useful . and Chelsea have some good crossers of the ball.

we do....?

We are appalling at corners, & most of our wingers don't go anywhere near the bye line

That's because there's little point if you are aiming at Jackson.

Palmer puts in a decent ball, as does James, and Neto. Aerial crossing seems to come from deeper these days. Teams working it to the bye line tend to look for cut backs

Tbf to Clearlake although this does underwhelm me a little, I didn't want Samu last year & now I'm regretting that we didn't close that deal - dude looks the real deal now at Porto. They've earned a bit of benefit of the doubt where a striker goes.

And getting a striker, any striker, to give Jackson competition was more important than profiles of striker. So all in all I'm content with this

Sorry MF have to totally disagree with those comments.
Jackson cannot win an aerial duel in the middle of the pitch. He cannot hold a ball up, he's offside awareness is seriously floored. He's movement in the box is shockingly bad.And to cap it he's finishing is appalling
Delap is everything Jackson is not, I cant see Jackson here come season end.
Delap is an upgrade, think 90% of Chelsea fans would agree, buts thats my opinion.

Nico at optimal capacity is much better retaining possession with ball to feet. Seen him being bombarded with grenades into feet or at chest height and easily makes it stick then proceeds to turn the opposition defender in one motion for fun, like it's nothing. To the point where I can see why parallels were made with Neymar on that one (prior to Joining Chelsea)
Less turnovers with him up top as the focal point. https://video.twimg.com/amplify_video/1850869316045930497/vid/avc1/1920x1080/7w8iorlU9kby4zo0.mp4?tag=16

Also blows Delap away as a creative spark department on and off the ball, especially in terms of maneuvering himself into advantageous areas to present teammates with golden opportunities and pressing.
He's equally as good at carrying the ball up the field iinto the penalty box.

Nico' dribbling has dropped like a stone this season, but that's more a symptomatic of Maresca' playing style. Inhibiting him. Don't like styles that restricts players influential natural instincts.

I'm not even going to address the offside comments. It's useless. All I'll suggest is go check the top scorers offside numbers, see how many times they are caught offside.

Lastly...it can 99% that agree with you doesnt make your view right, I'll be the 1%. I don't care.

Really MF you as you say dont care you have your opinion that usually goes against the majority.
But end of the day does not matter what our opinion is, Maresca will make he's choice of who the number 1 striker is and that will show very soon

The truth is Jackson is not good enough to be our N01 striker, he is still far to erratic and prone to a red.

Worthwhile squad player with Delap lets see how they perform next season, both should continue to improve.

Hopefully we can land a 20 goal per season striker

Every time an erratic striker misses THE chance he is letting the whole side down.

The striker, a top 4, No1 striker is there to convert more opportunities than he misses.

Jackson doesnt fall into that category yet.

Nico?

He is not ready to lead the line for a club with C/L ambitions unfortunately
