Common practice in that part of the world. Should never have been staged there.
Anyway, swatted Benfica aside deservedly. At a cost, Caicedo a huge loss for quarters. We'll be ok though, Palmeiras are missing key players through suspension and injuries, too.
Nico is a welcome return to the front line, a massive positive.
85 + 106 - What an ordeal that was!

Neto, Delap, Cucurella, James, Tosin, Colwill, Palmer all one away from suspension.... wiped cleaned after Palmeiras.

It’s where the next world cup is going. Mate of mine moved from Louisiana cause he says the storms are getting worse. He was flooded out three times in one year.

Absolute shambles - WC is going to be fun over there lol, what a joke.
Agree decent result eventually against Benfica and deserved, Lavia getting more and more minutes which is encouraging from a fitness point of view.
Assuming Estevao plays against us in next round?

They've played WCs in hotter countries but yes the heat & humidity means late afternoon electrical storms sometimes stretch into the evening. My lad plays over there and midnight starts frequently go to 2am - murder
College and lower leagues also have a rule that if the game is abandoned for weather after 60m then the result stands - incentive to go for it from the off!

I don't recall 1994 being too impacted but it was a time I'd fallen out of watching football so memory hazy. BTW 94 was a roaring success - the WC attendance records still stand iirc?
It also reignited interest in 'saccer' and FIFA regarded it as a huge success particularly the stadium quality set up to cater for mass media and spectators with excellent infrastructure.
