Estupinan

Ben Jacobs @JavobsBen
Exclusive: Manchester United and Milan both hold a genuine interest in Brighton’s Pervis Estupiñán.

#MUFC have now held talks on the player side.

No formal approach yet, but Brighton are open to selling having added Maxim De Cuyper.

Anyone know why we’re going for a LWB when we’ve got 3 on the books already? I’d say it’s the right side that’s in need of strengthening.

Berba

While having options at both RWB and LWB is nice, unless Estupiñán is considered to be starting most of the time shouldn’t we think about spending money on actual starters? At a time when money is tight and the squad needs a big overhaul, potentially buying 2 RWBs and 2 ACMs as your first signings doesn’t seem like the most sensible thing to do?

Surprised to see Utd fans not more excited by this. He’s a good player, who could get better. That LWB slot is made for him.

Is there a world in which he's an option United are considering for the eventuality that we don't sign Mbeumo? We know Amorim likes a left footed RWB, so Estupiñán and Dorgu could both be seen as options on either side, and Amad can play as R10 (which I recall is where you want him to play).

Anyway, this is a story by Ben Jacobs, who's not a United journalist so the story probably comes from other sources. It may well be that the player is on our radar and enquired about, as we have have about 100s of others that we're not actively looking to sign.

Excited for Luke Shaw to have another mate.

Yep, totally fine with that as like I said if the plan is to use Estupinan as a starting RWB and move Dorgu to the left then it makes sense. I was just questioning Berba being happy that we have depth for wingbacks while potentially ignoring areas that actually need fixing. Depth (however important it is for any side) isn't our priority this season, it's actually fixing starting positions. A team like Arsenal can worry about depth while their starting XI is pretty much sorted, not us.

Quite short on the facts, was mentioned as a side note but seems this deal isn’t happening after all.

I’d assume Estupiñán would start ahead of Dorgu. We don’t really have another starting LWB other than him, and he himself is a young player still very much developing.

I’m obviously not for one moment suggesting this is a priority singing, just that I can see the benefits of it did occur.

There's realistically no chance that Shaw can be sold, but as LCB and LWB cover he's a good player to have until his contract is up.
