Chelsea and Outgoing Transfers

Why are Chelsea so good at selling players?

They recoup so much money every year.

For example, they signed Madueke two and a half years ago for around 28.5m and have almost doubled their money on him depsite him not exactly setting the Premier League alight.

Is it down to not offering ridiculous wages like United? Better negotiators? More attractive players?

Reason 1 & 3 is the answer (reason 2 was correct in the Roman era, Marina was a don )

It's why we're gunna have problems shifting Chilwell, Nkunku & Sterling. All north of 25, all on very high wages.

I said we should act the same way when they started it. We have this fixation to buy 1 or 2 players who we must get and is the main reason we are taken to the cleaners. They have a list of players at a certain price and they get them in they suit both criteria. It is the best for a team that dropped in form and performance.

They have won 2 titles, have a deep squad for a champions league run and will sell.more players at higher prices that we will. We are trying to make sure we make the top 10 and somehow get rid of players we have somehow mismanaged to the point of being a millstone on our necks. Are we going to change? Let's cry how Newcastle has gotten Sesko.

Honestly, it does feel more than ever that players are treated like 'pieces of meat' and maybe the Chelsea model is the clearest example of that. There is little loyalty between players and clubs at the very highest level of the game, in both directions to be fair, except for when it suits them.
So Chelsea make no bones about their approach - buy players in at a young age for relatively cheap price, if they work out great, if not, just move them on and most other clubs are willing to speculate that they will turn out well.
Players are now aware that this is how Chelsea is run and so are willing to take the risk of going there - we do see some players who it appears have spent a season or two on loan when there, or slightly in the wilderness, but the club seem happy to go with this approach in the meantime.

It does make transfers more clinical than ever, and i guess some clubs wouldn't feel comfortable using the Chelsea approach - I guess we'll see in a few years if other clubs try to adopt that model.

Agree & we are the most egregious example. Don't like it, worrying trend.

Not only is it just wrong, but it makes it very hard (for me) to identify with us right now even while we're doing well. Why should I emotionally invest in this squad this year when I know half of it's gunna be traded off next year?

What sort of pay-off to outgoing players are Chelsea liable for? Some long 6/7/8 year contracts for quite a few players....

That their cheat code. It becomes more difficult now they are in Europe where it is limited to 5 years regardless of how long you sign them for.

One things is for sure, the CWC money will have helped them out. I wish their rivals would stop helping them out by paying top dollar for players they are willing to sell.
