A very professional and entertaining first league game. I never felt we were not going to win, even though it was only 1-0 for quite a while. That is a huge improvement on all our mental health from the last few years.
I was also impressed with the selection of the midfield 3. Not sure exactly, but something like 18-19-22 year olds. Although, if Pauly wasn't going to start on Saturday, would have liked him to do the whole 90 in the Super up.
We are clearly going to change tactics this year to suit circumstances, hallelujah!, but if we make the two signings in Eze and Sav, this is going to leave many bums on benches. 3 CB's do not have wingers, inverted or not, so BJ and Oderbert time on pitch will be very limited, because if we play 4-3-3, they are not getting into the first team.
BJ is a real conundrum. I called it very early that he can't really dribble or cross, but you can't deny his ability to get in that back post or do what he did Saturday, it is just his all round game that lacks. I am in the minority, but can he be turned into a Defoe Lite?
Big test on Saturday, I expect 3 CB's and a tactical plan, Brentford did seem to do well against City under Frank.

I wrote this on another thread this am...
Spurs might just be the "dark horse" this season... Obviously beating Burnley is nothing to get excited about BUT.....Frank will provide the defensive structure and tactical flexibility we lacked under Ange. Keeping Romero & VDV fit is key but both are excellent as a partnership. Palhinha is a player we have been cryng out for, Not only for his defensive discipline but he and Bentacur played in combination with the kids like Gray, Sarr & Bergvall offsets the inevitable mistakes they will make.. If Frank can keep Richarlison fit and motivated, then there's a player in there. If levy can get Eze & Savinho across the line then there's serious attacking threat with the likes Kudos, Kulu, BJ and Solanke.
Spurs for a top 5 finish if they get Eze & Savinho

Cannot disagree, although I would say dark horse to do well in the leay, not challenge

Yeah.... Not getting ahead of myself But

With options to play 5 at the back against better teams (as we saw Vs PSG)/ Have a stronger midfield/ Use Danso's Long throw/ More threat at set pieces is a great option. Options off the bench/rotation.... Udogie, Danso, Gray, Drag, Bergvall, Solanke, Kulu, Bentancur, Tel, BJ & Odobert...
Thats a squad capable of a top 5/6 finish with a smart manager/ sensible tactics.

Really good signs from the first game. We may have had scares but it was never us being carved open like under Ange. We looked more compact and organised. Already in this early period with Frank you can see improvements going on in set pieces, the defence and with certain players; Richy had his best ever performance and Sarr is enjoying some good form again.
If we can get Eze and Savinho then it's potentially huge not just where we can finish this season but in terms of Levy/the board getting their act together.

Remember the melt down from the Super Cup final 🤣

It would have been nice to win the Super Cup but it's just a glorified friendly, 3 points on Saturday was what it's all about.
I will always be grateful to Ange for being at the helm when we broke our 17 year trophy famine but it really does feel like we've got a proper grown up in charge now and although it's very early days I like what Frank is doing so far.

I believe it was always going to take a maverick like Ange for us to break through the parapet and lift a trophy. The usual loser mentality or nearly men approach was changed to an us against the world psych. It worked. Just a shame the injuries massively hampered our league campaign and rightly or wrongly cost the big man his job. But no one can ever take succulent European trophy from him.

I’ll repeat part because of the typo and part because I just love saying it, ‘a succulent European trophy’.

Glorified friendly? Speak for yourself.
Tell that to the team who put in the performance of the decade against PSG and whose public reaction to not lifting the SUPER Cup was one of absolute disappointment.
But yeah, Burnley is all that matters. Forget PSG.
Small **** mentality.

Imagine IF we'd won it and the player's delight and reaction brought about another parade. Yeah, imagine that.
VDV speaking on the podium: We facking won the Super Cup and you lot don't deserve it!

We had the super cup won, done & dusted against the best football team in Europe, in minute 85....
and we couldn't hold it.
Losing 3-4 on PKs is a disaster.
Frank has to make sure that kind of failure does not happen again.
Just think for a moment what it would have meant to our squad...victors over the mighty PSG!
Winners over Burnley?...not quite the same, is it?
