Essien For 18million - Accept or Reject?

Apparently Madrid are intertested in Essien for around 18million+. What you guys accept it or not?

Personally I'm not sure. Essien HAS had a poor season but people are tending to blow it out of proportion. It was definately better than Lampard's and defensively he was good, I think he could still do a good job in a DM role rotating with Mikel. He is also still not that old at 28, he still has enough time left to turn his form around and give us another top couple of years.

On the other hand, 18millionn is quite a lot of money. Other than Cech, Cole, Luiz, and Torres (only because of the price we paid for him) I don't think anyone else would get such a high valuation. If a bid came in I would be inclined to accept, we have Ramires who's performances this season have reminded me of Essien in his prime, and have McEachran and Piazon coming in - as well as Mellis who impressed at Barnsley on loan.

Thoughts? Would you guys accept or reject the bid if it is true?

Essien hasn't actually been as bad as you're making out. Mikel was very good for the first and last ten games, but in the middle of that he was very disappointing. At least Essien was still putting in decent, though not fantastic performances.

Have you considered that Mikel didn't look so good in those games,I don't agree with that, because of the poor form of Essien.

If we could get Gago/Granero in part exchange I would genuinely consider it. Not a knee jerk reaction to a poor season, he is getting on and his recent injury record is poor

Having said that, I think we can do better than £18 million. Yes he has been poor but he remains one of the world's finest midfield talents and has 4 years left to run on his deal. If you consider that an off form Rooney with 18 months left on his deal is worth £60 million we should definitely be looking at a valuation similar to that which we paid for him

£18m for an injury prone, going-on-30 playe who had a very poor season?

Sell sell sell!

Ramirez, Mcecheran, Zhirkov can all play in the middle

Chelsea fans here have gone mad if they think that 18 million pounds is the right price for letting a player of immense quality of Micheal Essien leave Chelsea.
As a Chelsea fan I would say that I would want at least 35 million pounds for Essien and if we do sell Essien I think that Chelsea should renew Essien's contract by three more years so that he is not sold cheaply.

Mikel is awful. Waste of space. And would not look out of place in my village team. I fail to see how a tiny minority of vocal but stupid fans fail to see that.

When at his best Essien may be the best in the world at what he does but rught now he's not even the best at teh club in diong it -Ramires does it better. I'd rather focus on Ramires, he's the younger one, the one impressing more and the one that will be the future of the midfield. To say he's a bigger flop than Shevcnheko is silly. No-one else, even the most harderned Mikel hater would say that

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ramires has not been near Essien's class at any point. And he is far too inconsistent. Not ready to take up the mantle.

aND mikel at his best is still miles below ess at his worst.

honestly £20m on mikel, a player with no qualities whatsoever. Biggest flop ever in our history.

Definitely accept.

Essien was very poor last season and after a couple of very serious injuries he´s not going to get back to the Essien of a couple of years ago.

Hard to accept but it´s the truth. For that reason if someone is offering us 18 million + for Essien we have to take it.

With Ramires we have the ready-made Essien replacement.

'Hard to accept but it´s the truth. For that reason if someone is offering us 18 million + for Essien we have to take it.'

Essien is worth double that. This season he was still better than Lampard and Mikel. A player of his class will easily come close to the unbelievably high standards he set before, regardless of his injuries. Best midfielder in our squad, was better than Frank at his best, and he is also best at what he does in the world.

'With Ramires we have the ready-made Essien replacement.'

Ramires is young with promise, But he is still a class below Essien's standard, even when at his best, and lacks the consistency in his performances.

Is he a player who deserves opportunities? Yes. Could he be a jey player in say, two years time? Yes. But is he ready to take up a first team place week in week out, ahead of a player like Essien? NEVER IN A THOUSAND YEARS! For now he should stay as a first teamer, and probably back up to Lamps, Ess and hopefully Sneijder.
