Can England be a World Number one Team?

Not not long ago England Fans hoped their team will be number 1 in ODI too. That too was the stated goal of the team England. But their performance in India in current seriese has been abolutely pathetic at best. Whipped by young Indian team like mad dogs, they were seen wagging their tails between their legs in all departments of the game. I see no chance of England becoming number 1 in ODIs soon.

If I am to use Know-it alls logic,
I will say its ODI that matters, Who cares about five days tuk tuk called tests and played by lazy bums, watched by lazier beer sipping sleepy suntanning bums.

Even though I am kidding but above sentences sound good.

here is some logic for you all.

in cricket, the longer the game is, the more class will tell.

in a short game, 1 piece of good luck can swing it (the miss-hit that flies for 6, the poor umpiring decision not revered because of bcci stubborness). In a longer game, however, these pieces of luck have less affect on the outcome of the game, thus class and skill become paramount.

the best example of this is pakistan. Most of their batsman (excluding younis khan and mohammed yousuf) are stroke makers i.e. they take risks to score qickly. in the one day game (both t20 and ODI) this pays off more often than not but in the longer format, it does not, hence pakistan's 6th placing (yes there are othre causes that contribute towards their comparative not goodness, but still).

Hence why tests and only tests represent a true demonstration of skill class and longevity of not just individuals but teams.

"in cricket, the longer the game is, the more class will tell."

Why should Yuvraj's ability to score quick runs seem a lesser criterion than Dravid's ability to watch the ball go past countless times ?

Pox
when and if england becomes ODI number one then these guys will start claiming ODIs as a real game. Remember for long they were putting 20/20 down till england won that cup. Now to england fans, its good to claim to be world champ in 20/20 . since they cant win real world championshhip that is 50 overs ODI.

No we will not.. we want to stay at number one in the test arena..

The worst that can now happen is that England win tomorrow and go home believing they've cracked it.

True, I do think England will play better in Australia in the world cup. The wickets will suit our batting line up and our seamers should get a little more bounce..
saying that we were trounced in the odi series last time we were down under. But Australia like India are great at home in one day cricket..

Indian fans going missing? Englands two largest stadiums collective capacity would only fill Eden gardens by two thirds.

ODIs and T20s don't matter. they never have, and they never will. i have called for them to be scrapped, outside of the world cup, several times on the old 606 and a couple of times on here.

do your research before you accuse me of being a hipocrite.
