Gentlemen,
What positives can England take out of the soon to be 5-0 thumping? England have been completely outplayed in the mini series & it looks as if the England team will have to improve dramatically to even consider becoming the No.1 side in ODI cricket.
All credit to India though as they have been brilliant in all three departments & have uncovered England's weakness to spin bowling.

Another positive
That England don't need to open with a keeper. It's NOT compulsory.

Morgan is the only player that looks comfortable vs spin.
Also, I was surprised at how many wickets the indian medium/slow bowlers took. England players are used to quick bowlers and prefer pace on the ball, and have struggled against 70-80mph bowling. something to consider for future.... But I dont see this series having an impact on england in the next world cup an iota!!!

Bell's a pretty good player of spin.

"Bell's a pretty good player of spin"
That is a myth cos he is not playing. I have seen Bell play many times and he just cannot rotate strike against the spin and all you will see is another Bopara. Bell is a top player against pace bowling but Spin is his achillies heel.

Like England's acadamy in Austrailia which worked to win them the ashes home and away, maybe the next step is to have an acadamy in the sub cont considering Indian, Sri Lankan, Pak, Bangladesh and West Indian conditions are the same and the next generation could have a month in a year to improve there skills in these conditions?

It is a good experience to get the young lads like Borthwick playing in India.
It's the hardest place to start and an experience.
Kieswetter isn't anything other than T20.
Patel is a bits and pieces.
Finn has been great.
I would stick with Finn, Borthwick, Bairstow and groom them into the team with the main guys - Coom, Swann, Broad and Morgan.
I see a weakness and inconsistency in the trio of Bell, Pieterson and Trott. The inability to build on scores. One cannot knock Trott's average but he is limited once that 35th over starts. I feel he is regressive.
I would open with Hales and Cook.

Cook is a useless captain and speaks nonsense in post match interviews. His explanation of the behaviour of Dernbach and Swann is they were desperate to do well and their desperation showed. What sort of word is desperation to use, did he mean they were panicking.
He complains about the fielding with the best fielder in the current squad, Bell, sitting in the dressing room.
