Philip Walton

I thought that Mr. Walton had a great game on Saturday, allowing the players to get on with it and, as a result, allowing the game to flow. In fact, he was almost invisible which is the best thing you can say about a ref.

Was a good golfer in his day too.

I thought he was good other than his treatment of Suarez. It was obvious that he had taken on board certain comments about him and was determined to not give him ANY decisions.

Fair enough, Suarez does go down to easily, and sometimes they are not free-kicks, but, he also gets fouled a lot, as all very tricky and creative players do, and referees have to strike a balance.

Just because a player is a diver (in English parlence, in South America, Suarez is just clever), does not mean that every single time they go down they have dived (been clever). Sometimes they have fouled because the opponent could not cope with their quality.

Fair enough, but sometimes Suarez was clearly pushed down. Maybe he needs to start using his elbows to protect him, I would.
