Total disbelief to be honest. Did i read £1.5 M transfer fee ? Thought Ashley was a business man - this deal makes zero sense.
How much did draw on last day of the season cost NUFC ?- Nolan would surely be the difference between a few places.
Can't figure out why Ashley is hellbent on flushing NUFC down the pan !

"Did i read £1.5 M transfer fee ?"

£4 million fee apparently. On the pitch we do have better than him, but off it we don't and having seen what happened in 2008/09 I can tell anyone, having heart is equally important to having skill

Nolan has 2 years left on his contract and was offered a further 2 taking him up to the age of 34. He wanted another 3 years and the club said No.
He did not have to leave now, he still had 2 years left on his current contract. He was on around £40k per week but my understanding is that West Ham have given him £55k per week for 5 years. This is probably being funded by the savings on Keiron Dyer's wages. The fee was £4.5 million and this has been paid personally by Gold and Co.
Pardew said about a month ago that Ben Arfa would play in the role that Nolan had this year (just off the main striker) and many feel that Nolan would have struggled to get into the starting 11.
Obviously he was a big influence in the dressing room and his drive and passion will be missed, but there are players coming into the club who are younger, faster and fitter.

rangers fan in peace.

seemed really strange to me this one, why would Nolan leave newcastle for west ham,

considering that he would be playing in the premiership again season, I would go as far to day that he could even get a bigger move if he has another good season.

but like most of the time ,decisions at newcastle have us all wondering whats going on.

Player lacking in ambition, westham will be offering some silly money and its this attitude that will put them in even more debt next season, they have two absolute nuggets running the club IMO.

hope newcastle get the Andy Carroll money and can strengthen the team.

all the best for next season.

Just heard he will be earning £13m over 5 years at West Ham.

Last chance to cash in on a transfer fee? Maybe, but £1.5m isn't going to go far to replace a captain, a playmaker and more importantly - a goal scorer.
Nolan was key to Newcastle's survival in the 2nd half of the season, without him they will struggle. I'm surprised clubs like Stoke, Blackburn and Everton weren't interested. The problem really lies with the club - they've allowed the situation to arise. Who in their right mind would leave their captain in the position where he was in the last year of his contract without signing a new deal? Pardew has clearly made Nolan feel unwanted - and Barton too by the looks of it.

Sorry, charliegeorge, but that has to be one of the worst comments I've seen on here!

First there are three more transfer windows before Nolan's contract would have run out, which leads me to the fact that we didn't leave our captain in the position where he was in the last year of his contract.

The fee is being reported as £4.5 million. Personally I think £4 million is closer.

Secondly, Nolan is NOT a playmaker at all! He's in the team to score goals and does so, he offers very little else to our attacking game but offers leadership when we're defending.

Nolan wasn't really as important in the second half of the season as you say. In fact, he only scored 2 goals after Carroll left. His influence as an all-round midfielder was poor too. However, as I said, his leadership in getting through games was second-to-none.

I'm not so surprised clubs like Stoke, Everton and Blackburn don't want him, as they all run good business models and under his current contract at WHU he'll earn £15 million in the next 5 years, which for a player that is not even certain to be in the first XI (for example, Everton have at least 4 better CMs - including Arteta - that are better than him).

Finally - for the most ridiculous bit - if you think it's Pardew that's making the players feel unwanted, you need your head sorting. He doesn't run the finances of the club and everyone knows that.
Nolan, Barton and Enrique have all been offered new deals by Pardew. It's Ashley that decides what he feels is reasonable for them in terms of wages, which they probably feel aren't reasonable as Ashley is a stingy...
Barton and Nolan both had/have a good relationship with Pardew and have no mentioned how they feel he knows what he's doing etc. They're more accepting of him than I and most other Newcastle fans are.

You've made a mountain out of a quite big molehill on this one

Maybe he has low self-esteem and doesn't feel comfortable amongst the big players in the Premiership. An inferiority complex that can only be sated at Oakwell and the Keepmoat.

He's gone for the money - Scousers can't resist dosh. I won't be wasting my time cheering him when he next plays at SJP, he's done a runner for cash, plain and simple.
