WHAT CHANCE FOR POMPEY?

Recent years have seen more of a drop in fortunes for the mighty Saints than a rise for Portsmouth.

But the normal order of things look daunting for the 10,000 blue fans to the East. With a formidable structure, fanbase, financial backing and ambition, Saints look likely to take their natural place as king of the South as far as football goes.

Can Portsmouth realistically put up a fight?

They have a fairly solid side, a very good spirit and attitude and a hardcore 5000 fans.

Personally i can't wait!

There's only me to defend the Pompey castle at the moment, so I'm hoping that some people, from a lot further east, turn up to help me out.

It's not the three wise men though. Although maybe it is!
They chased after a star and it wasn't Liza Minnelli.

They did very well this season under some very testing circumstances. But, it must be a bit of a kick in the teeth for SC having to start building a squad again after so many faces leaving. The Championship can be very unforgiving.
Darn I miss footy already.....& its not even properly over yet!

Without trying to sound harsh it does seem like the type of post a WUM would write but hopefully that wasn't intended...

I think it'll be an interesting season, unfortunately with a fair few players returning to their parent clubs Pompey will have to re-build again...

Saints fans know as well as any-one else what a hard slog it is for a club that goes into and then out of administration. A CVA isn't a 'Get out of jail free Card'. There are strict financial limits that have to be adhered to. This is probably why Saints slipped down into League One. As you correctly say you are now on the up, while we [Pompey] are in a similar position that you [Saints] found yourselves in a few years back. If we can survive the next 5 years keeping our heads above water in the Championship without suffering a further relegation then I, for one, will consider it a success for the club.

It is a good thread really and after looking at 'The Portsmouth News' it looks like you only have 5 or 6 registered Pompey players when contracts expire at the end of June...
