Scrap all foreign contracts.....

I feel if the English R/L should implement a few guidelines in order to prevent players arriving to the S/League solely for a big money contract when he knows himself he is not up to it.

In order for the below suggestion to work the R/L have to tidy up it's elidigibility criteria. No more of this, my grandmother's butcher was born in Leeds, or I own an English dash-hound rubbish.

I think at least 25% of the players currently in the S/League wouldn't be there if these implications were put into place.

* Match payments only....detiremened between club and player.

* An injury fund paid into by every player on match payments of 10% to cover a minumum payment for when each player is on the sidelines injured.
For example.....a player who is on 100,000 pound per year breaks down to approxiamately 3,300 pound a game....for each game he contributes 330 pound so as when he get's injured he recieves 1,650pound minus 10% to the injured fund.
With over 100 players on match payments the fund would soon end up with a substantial kitty.
Yes you will get players who get injured for 10 weeks, but at the same time you have got players not get injured at all.

The above I believe would soon sort out the bludgers from the honest player trying to make a living in rugby league...and gets rid of the massive contracts that get signed (Matty Orford) when the player is only using and abusing the current system.....a player like Orford would never of bothered flying over to England but on the other hand a player like Steve Menzies who just loves the game would even play for a bowl of rice...

Yes you could pick holes in the above idea, but something along these lines would surely help the S/L clubs from blowing big money contracts.

What do you think.......??

Cheers

By the way......Australia by 7 points...

I think England rely to much from the bomb, which makes it easier in defence.
Yes it may come off 2-3 times but if the kicking boots are not on it could be a long afternoon....cheers good luck..

Unfortunatly, unlike you ancestors we being so prim and proper have to abide by the law. What you suggested is against countless employment laws both domestic and international

I totally agree with you about the bomb but id be worried about yourselves too as aus seem to rely on capitalising on our unforced mistakes, but fortunatly for aus we make plenty of them but you never know.

should be a good game, the disapline and consistancy in your side is unreal and nothing is given all has to be taken, but im not impressed with your attacking creativity, its so robotic and predicable, it just generally exacuted to perfection. I think with an exceptional defencive display on both sides, we win and win well. Unfortunalty i only see one sides defence hitting the top and think we could crumble early, and every point gifted against a physically dominate well drilled defence is a one hell of a mountain to climb

BT, what you say as far as the rules & regulations is true......but with a show of strength anything is possible.
Many a legislation is changed to suit one party or the other from time to time....

As for the OZ team being robotic & predictable...I have to agree, but if any team in any situation can get the little things down pat 100% it gives them opportunities to test their arm when it matters, along with frustrating the daylights out of the opposition...

To many teams these days seem to want to score off every set of 6, where a smart team will build momentom with eventually the cream floating to the top.

Of course I want the Aussie to crush the poms.....but would I be disappointed if England won, by no means....it would be the best injection into international footy that we have been waiting for years to see.

Good luck..but not to much...

Ha i know what you mean, its great having a game to get excited about.

The way i would do it is just increase the homegrown quotas significantly, club trained players are not restricted to be a certain nationality, but for all intents and purposes are going to be 99% local, few exeptions like hansen and leuluia i can think of.

Also give massive concessions under the salery cap for signing players who were trained by superleague academys.

Makes imports no value for money and an increased requirment on producing players,

the problem is that the rules are based on nationality which is subject to rulings like kolpac making it impossible to restrict freedom to work to certain nationals making the rules easy to manipulate

Change the basis of the rules from nationality to first club played for and the red tape disappears

I hope you dont mind me saying i wish you zero luck tomorrow, and besides injures which no one want to see, i hope everything gos wrong for yous!

The number of players going over to S/L from OZ will drop pretty substantially when another two teams are invited to join NRL....Not counting the under-20's Toyota Cup, each club has to find app. 50 players each to fill 1st grade & reserve grade+ injuries etc.....
