Chief Executive Tom Glick recently said there was money available to bring a player in despite being over-budget on the wages.
Over budget for gods sake , Doncaster spend more than us .Oldham are more ambitious , so are Burton Albion.
Clough probably has £300 and a free tour of the ground to offer someone.
Dire straits

"The last time I looked Forest were £60m+ in debt, more than the likes of Everton and comparable to Wigan."
Not comparable at all and you know why! Do you have any figures for what Derby owe to their investors and banks etc etc?
"David Platt, Joe 'It's Only Another Game' Kinnear, Megson"
They were all sacked,so what is your point? Do you think any of them deserved a 3 year contract extension?

We've had some bad owners but nothing in comparison to the utter criminals you've had! No club deserves that (well maybe Leeds)

"utter criminals": can't argue with that
How is your debt different, Albert? Debt is debt. I'm no financial expert, I'm just a lay person but I had a look at the BBC page on who owes what in the Eurozone. It's still debt, isn't it?
So Forest owe Nigel Doughty money? It isn't payable back? But then the other scenario is that Nigel Doughty is no longer prepared/can afford to make up the annual shortfall.
I doubt Doughty can afford to walk away without recouping some of his investment and football clubs are different in terms of business as new owners take over old debts.
As for the point regarding your former managers, it was directed at McWoanz to point out that Forest are also culpable of terrible decisions. Perhaps I should have added sacking Paul Hart.
I said it to show that neither club covers itself in glory. We got rid of George Burley and I don't think I have felt as disappointed about any decision as that one in my time as a Derby fan.

CapnBob. Doughty has already stated that he doesn't want , or expect, his money back. He has also stated that he will honour all current contracts for players currently on the books. The problems will start when the current players contracts come up for renewal starting at the end of this season. Forest have to cut their wage bill by something like 30 to 40% so new offers will. I am sure, have to be reduced. the question is "under the new Financial Fiar Play rules will any other clubs in the Championship be able to offer them any more than we can".
In theory, under the new regime, both Forest and Derby, as well supported clubs, should be better off than most in terms offered for players provided every club sticks to the rules. Will be interesting to see what the Football League are prepared to do to those breaking the rules.

There might be trouble ahead...Let's face the music and dance
If you can excuse the above, I respect your analysis. Yes, it looks like Forest will have to reduce costs and probably cover this by bringing along home-grown talent (Bamford, Lascelles. Interesting to see that you have a number of Cypriot youngsters at your aAcademy). It's what has happened at Derby.
Challenging times for both clubs. I would say that Mr Doughty, at least, does appear to have Forest's best interests at heart, whereas GSE probably bought Derby to make a profit.

Thank you for your comments CapnBob. I would like to hope that the new rules, assuming they do come into play, might bring some sanity back to our level of football. As for the PL I despair. I have my own small business and some of the players now earn as much in a week as I turnover in a year. I would really love a PL club to go to the wall, or sky withdraw their millions to bring some sanity back to that level. Cannot see it happening unfortunately.

Sorry, I also understand what you meant by reductions (I think it's one reason Earnshaw left Forest last season). If other Championship clubs have to make similar reductions, this might mean players electing to stay, because, in an effect, it is a kind of salary cap via the backdoor - the trouble is, as you suggest, will others stick to the rules?

Pardon, Stan. Posted my second response, before I saw your next message.
Totally agree with you in all respects . It is indeed a crazy situation, people like yourself trying to run your business in difficult times & then Rooney & Tevez acting like divas. There's no sense of proportion. Football's lost it.
We may wind each other up as rivals, sometimes getting personal, but I have far more respect for you as a club than the PL. You have had to face some desperate times, as we have as well.
Sadly, the PL simply have too much power and it will be clubs like Wigan who could suffer a financial catastrophe whilst the likes of Chelsea continue to wreak financial turmoil. After paying £13m to get Villa-Boas, there's talk of sacking him!
That £13m would probably keep both our clubs running for a season.

Respect to you CapnBob. It's a pleasure to have a reasonable debate with a fellow football fan. I don't post very often on here simply because of the childish jibes. From both sets of fans at each end of the BC Way I might add.
