Will yesterdays game,,,

finally end the myth that Ali Al-Habsi is one of the best keepers in the league?

Whenever there is a "team of the season" type article, you see many people putting the Wigan keeper in.
Fact is, he is a spectacular keeper rather than a great keeper. A lot of his saves are easier than he makes them look, and this tendancy to elaborate a save often results in him pushing the ball back into the danger area.

Yes, he does make some special saves now and again, but his general work doesn't match up to many others in the league.

Tim Krul, on the other hand, looks solid. Along with Szczesny, Courtois and de Gea, he should rise to be one of the top keepers not only in the PL but in world football.

Think Al Habsi is a good keeper, a very good keeper at times.

Teams like Wigan who are in relegation dogfights every year, need a 'spectacular' keeper rather than a 'solid' keeper like you say. They need keepers who can make point winning saves and Al Habsi has done that for them countless times.

Yesterday, only the Arteta goal was his fault, and even Szczesny has let in a long range strike which he should have easily beaten away (Kyle walker),

The Verm goal was not his fault at all, that really was a superb header.

So I rate Al-Habsi, no he's not one of the best keepers in the league imo but he deserves the credit he gets.

He was the best 'keeper in the league last season but Wigan's defence has been so poor this season he's let in more goals. Still a good 'keeper

Disagree. Think solid keepers win more points than spectacular keepers.

Looks good when a keeper is flying through the air, all over the place. But what is really needed is someone who just comes and deals with things.

He's better than James Foster..

D'Jeezus agree with everything you have said. I also think Blobinson who is loved by the media is also very overrated.

Dave, Ruddy is a very average keeper as well. Will cost Norwich a few points this season.

Al-Habsi reminds me of Mannone when he got a run in the Arsenal team.
On his debut v Fulham he made a fair few spectacular saves. Half of them came about because he didn't deal with the first shot sufficiently well. Soon, though, this was exposed and he was caught out a few times (West Ham being the one that sticks in the mind).

Looks good, but ultimately will cost you points.
