Aus v Ind, 2nd Test

after Australia's thrilling win at the MCG, what do we think will happen at the SCG?

according to cricinfo, both Tendulkar and Laxman have astronomical averages at the SCG, might this be an omen for the test? The SCG pitch has traditionally been the most helpful to spinners of all the test grounds in australia, but if any team is going to cope with a turning wicket well, it's india. Ashwin looked promising at the SCG and picked up a few wickets, and i can't help but think he might be a danger to Australia in this test.

On the other hand, this will be Warner's test debut at his home ground, where he played half of his first class games in which he averaged 60. Also, the weather beyond the first day is unsettled, with the chance of some storms and definitely some moisture, helpful to the seamers, and specifically to Australia's seam attack which looks to me to be the stronger of the two.

on balance though, i think india will level the series and win this test.

to be honest afridi, most of the indian commentators have mentioned that vvs shud get his last chance. if he he fails in the 2nd innings that should be his last. same goes for gambhir. and then we have sehwag, who if not for his odi big hundreds against wi and bangladesh, he has had the worst 2011. his average is the lowest in the indian test team, and we cannot afford to carry players that perform once in a year. we need to be harsh because it is affecting the whole team performance and it is getting us no where. i mean where will laxman get us to? if he fails he will retire anyway. even sachin is becoming a burden at the moment, because despite him scoring those 50s its not taking india anywhere. i think i can confidently say right now that if this indian team went to newzealand they would come out losing. i can still remember indian players bold statement on press conferences and i quote. dravid - "australian batting is fragile and after the SA taking them out for 47 we definately have an upper hand, and also he went to say that we shouldnt be too carried away by the young australian pacers, as they are inexperianced" and then sehwag post west indies series. i will look to score atleast 2 hundreds before aus. and then gambhir on his form " even though i havent scored a 100 I have been batting very well, and i have been scoring runs consistantly, form shouldnt be judged on 100s" and then our great selector who probably deserves more praise than anyone k. srikanth " i am confident that we will beat australia in australia with this team"

Viru,

Agree that changes need to be made, but you’ve listed your top 6 there and you want them all to go…. Who are you going to replace them with? Whilst your ODI team will recover from the big ¾ retiring, your test side looks in tatters and will do for a few years to come…………… it’s a case of re-building….. that said, don’t write off the series just yet, the aussies have an average side themselves batting wise (ponting/Clarke apart), they are hardly “England”!!! On the plus side, seems like you have found a bowler at last, will be interesting to see what happens on day 2 on a batting track.

Ps viru – Indians need more fans like you. Rather than being obsessed with the BIG 3 and carry on the short-term extravagance, its time some got objective and started looking 5 years ahead, rather than 5 weeks ahead and 5 years in the past….

yes afridi i have named the big players because off late they are the ones that are not performing, and whilst the talk before the series was whether ponting should be dropped or not has all but quiten down. now all of a sudden we have a batting line up struggling like hell. with the 3 innings that have been played and the 8 innings we had in england, laxman has been the worst. Im not picking on any paticular player but the fact is we cannot carry a player, whether it is a non performing player like gambhir, or a kohli whose forward defence technique needs to be looked at. I know laxman has been such a good player for india and has won matches from impossible stages but that shouldnt gaurantee a player a place in the team. Now the question is who will replace these people? i think we just need to invest on players who are performing consistantly in ranji matches and just let them perform in a span of 15ish matches. let them work on their technique. Im more than happy to see young players get out like 180 all out than these so experianced players fold up consistantly for low scores. india might even end up winning this test match, but im really not convinced on these inconsistent performances and bold statements by the indian players.

neon, we might we might not, but for that to happen our batting needs to click. do u really think it will? for the second innings count india 2 down for 15, because sehwag and gambhir are guaranteed out? (i would like to be proven wrong on this). but in short i believe that we would first need to get them out in 230ish and then bat sensibly.

today what australia need to do is be solid and consolidate their reasonable start into a first innings lead upwards of 100, ideally closer to 150 or even more. India just need wickets and to get australia out at parity or as close as possible.
