Radio Derby reported earlier that Brewers accepted a "substantial" offer from Crawley Town for Billy Kee, who turned the move down.
Firstly, isn't it nice to come across a footballer who would put location, family, etc ahead of what, undoubtedly, would have been more money.
Secondly, what would YOU consider to be a substantial offer for Kee... what would you sell him for?
I'd imagine that the offer would have been £300,000-£400,000 seeing as they've just sold Tubbs for £800,000.
Would you have accepted that, or should Burton Albion now be in a position where they can refuse all but a ridiculous offer for their top players?

Marco i would have pulled there arms off if they had offered 400,000 for him, seems a little injury prone to me at the moment.Hes a good player but he isnt worth that sort of money my friend and if we were offered that we would have sold him thats for certain.

Reading between the lines.
He was doing alright at Torquay & only left there for family reasons.
For him to move back down south was a no brainer.
Agree about his injuries but maybe the club are slightly to blame there rushing back too soon earlier in the season.
No use selling players for that amount with just over 24 hrs of transfer window left.
Can anyone seriously imagine chairman Ben allowing Pesch to spend anything.
He would have become the king in his counting house counting all his money.

Wow ! That's unexpected news that did not find its way across my radar. Thanks for sharing that nugget Marco.
Top bloke for turning it down.

I agree with you Pez, we shouldn't even be considering an offer unless its a phenonenal bid from a championship club or higher. We should not be selling our best players. We are sending out all the wrong messages as usual. BAFC is a business and profit margins come before the team and its supporters it seems.
Lets imagine Billy had decided to go,which is possible, where would that have left the clubs ambitions for the rest of the season ?
I'll tell you where, league 2 survival, thats about the sum of this clubs ambitions along with a business profit !
Play offs---- dream on,we won't make them and are not good enough to win them if we scraped a place anyway.
I won't be investing in a season ticket next season and will pick and choose when i go. I can see through the charade as judging by the lack of support and atmoshere at the Pirelli many more have already.
The club need to make a statement of ambition !
We are a selling club, just to survive in league 2, no one wants us to go crazy in the transfer market and risk the clubs future but some investment in the playing staff would be nice ! We seem to be penny pinching all the time, very few managers can achieve success on a shoestring budget.
We can not compete at this level without investment in the playing staff, free transfers and loans are not the answers,if they are free 9 times out of 10 they are not good enough and loans are only temporary to cover a squads weaknesses.
Unfortunately for Ben who i hold with very high regard he has a reputation amongst the fans for being too tight with the purse strings. Being prudent is a good virtue but you also have to make the odd investment to grow you can not stand still in todays football world as you will just get overtaken by others more ambitious.
We have been very fortunate in our three years in the football league that some clubs have been so financially mismanaged and destitute that they were relegated, so i am well aware of that problem.

400,000 pounds is a lot of money for a player at league 2 level chaps and one who is tending to be a little injury prone at the moment.Dont forget there would be sell on clauses written in as well. That sort of money would set us up to bring in players in the closed season as permanent signings and totally restructure the team because dont forget the bench warmer will be off the payroll as well.No for me it would have been good business because we are not going to make the play offs are we.

Billy turning down the crawley bid was in my oppinion the best thing he could have done. Crawley are spending money beyound their means in a desperate move to get promoted. Promotion this season is going to be tough and if crawley dont go up they could find themselves in real financial trouble. Not that evans will worry that much as he will just walk away leaving the mess behind him. Looking forward to our game this weekend and if you need any info on parking etc ill be happy to try and help.
