Derby V Forest, fortunes have changed....

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/football-league/ouch-forest-forced-to-concede-that-the-future-is-the-derby-way-6329938.html

Where's all these Forest fans (Jom,Woody, Bangor, Blobby, etc, etc) who were telling us our club was in disarray, and we were going to be taken to the cleaners?
Just thought I would get that off my chest!!

I'd just like to congratulate Nigel Clough, and his backroom staff, also Tom Glick (shock, horror) in getting rid of all the dead wood that Paul Jewell and Billy Davies brought. Now we have got our club back on an even keel, well nearly, lets hope our so called owners give Nigel a bit of cash in the Summer, "not a lot" but a bit.

Have a read of the article, I've put the link on. All the best to that club down the road in sorting their finances out, and bringing in lower league players. You've got the right manager at the helm.

If saving our club involves following a business model similar to Derby's....sobeit.

It is pretty clear to see that the approach of signing Premier League journey men has been a very bad one. The likes of Greening, Boateng, Derbyshire and, to some extent, Reidy should never have been signed as they are never going to be worth the wage they are receiving. Add to that the fact that they are at a stage in their careers that means we won't ever sell them on.

Derby have shown that players from lower divisions can step up and compete at an higher level. Forest's scouting will need to get it's act together in order to find potential from downwards, wherever that may be. We know it can work (Joel Lynch) but seem to be very reluctant to persue it with any great desire.

Strett, I hope your boy enjoys coming to a proper stadium (Pride Park) But I'm afraid he may not enjoy the result!! Cause it's going to be a Rams win! Srett, McFlorist shouldn't you be having a bit of banter with the Derby fans instead of arguing amongst yourselves
Grff, thanks for being honest and truthful, but I'd still like to know where your fans are who said, you shouldn't go down the Derby route bringing in young players from the lower leagues, cause apparently it doesn't work! I've said this before and I'll say again, Don Amott has told a friend of mine, that Nigel's number 1 target this Summer is McGugan, how much would we get him for? Is he any good?

I think a lot of fans have a problem following their rivals approach whether it be tactics, structure or transfer philosophy. It's the fear of admitting that the rival has pulled something off. Derby weren't the first and won't be the last to recruit heavily from the lower levels, especially in a time where FFP is influencing money-men's purse strings in the game.
I must admit I had big doubts that Burton players could step up to the Chanpionship but I've been proved wrong. I sure know who I would choose if offered an ageing Premier League has-been or an hungry Conference player.

As for McGugan, I used to be a fanboy of his, but that has slowly fizzled away. The lad is, in my mind, a luxury player, interested when things are going right but doesn't have the stomach for the bad times.
I think he'd go for around £2m...hopefully.

grff,

Didn't the club put it in the papers that they wanted £1.5M for him before January?

Jorvik like I've said mate, Nigel Clough is a big admirer of McGugan, in fact he enquired about him only a week and a half ago. Don't forget Don Amott and Nigel Clough are big mates. Eddie if your reading this it isn't speculation it's fact.

Wassa,

More than a few dogs have questioned his desire in certain games, that doesn't sound like a Clough type of player, he likes them to show that they're busting a gut even when they're having a bad game.

The only reason he's not busting a gut Jorvik, and his desire not to play in certain games for the red dogs is apparently cause the manager has lost the dressing room.

I don't think the manager has ever had the dressing room with him Wassa. If you're right (I'm not doubting your souce) Clough must think he can get the best out of him, ut I'm not convinced he can. He should be busting a gut for his home town club you'd of thought?
