Either 2-1 or 1-0 would have been fair IMO if you want to discount set piece mistakes.

To be honest Rooney's other goal was also a bad error but I'm just going by the way I saw the pattern of the game.

Well said OP. I felt we deserved our win. First half was pretty even. United bossed the first half an hour of the second half very comfortably. But then we sat back and it's always a risky game, as was shown in the cup game at Anfield. The manner in which we attempt to see out games (without the ball) is risky in the extreme. But we got the result we deserved over the 90 minutes as a whole.
