The Land that TV Football Forgot

Tomorrow the biggest crowd of the season for a L1 fixture will gather at Hillsborough to watch a fiercely contested derby between the two professional clubs of the city that gave birth to club football. There will only be a handful of PL games that will achieve higher gates over the same weekend. However the game will not be televised either live or as part of a high-lights programme.

Now, some Sheffielders may argue that this shows how biased the media are about L1 and Sheffield in particular. Conversly some people outside of Sheffield but nearby will say nobody outside of Sheffield is bothered about the 'dee dar' derby.

Personally I will be there, with my son, handing on the tradition of Sheffield football i.e. Sheffield and Hallamshire football is the grass roots game of the people, it is an outdoor winter game for men, it is a physical contact sport and it is fiercely contested.

If people who live in other parts of the country are more interested in wrestling style footballtainment featuring overpaid, badly behaved prima donnas they can watch the PL.

If anybody is interested in Reading v Watford they can watch the Football League Show and get the bonus of Steve and Leroy's insightful analysis.

I'm going to pay MY money to watch MY team play real football live and may the best team win.
