Time to stop the Northern Rail cup winners getting the tick for Super League and just offer it to the Champions of the Championship,if this was the case Halifax would be back in Super League, the Northern Rail cup winners are obviously not good enough to be there..........end of rant

This topic is way out of my field.......
But, I can't see any team entering the S/League and not get belted around the park, it's not as if they can start re-cruiting in July/Aug when they don't know where they are positioned themselves and any player of note would already be wrapped up.
I can't see how anyone can expect a new team entering S/League to be competitive with-in 2 years.....can't be done IMO...cheers

so what you saying is a team that when measured against all others applying for a superleague licence and coming out on top obviously wasnt going to be good enough because.....
their squad from 2+ years ago, a squad put together for a differenct competition under different salery cap rules which in no way resembles the current team, only won the NRC and got beat in the final of the league?
Seriously, how does the fact Widnes (who were judged on many criteria not the fact they won NRC) of 2009 couldn't win anything other than the NRC effect the team they are today? More importanly mean that Halifax would be any better?

T he whole system stinks. you could have a team that finishes bottom in SL for the next 3 years but retains its place in SL. Long gone are the days of a club retaining its position based on playing ability.Widnes have three years to get things wright, and thats fine. If we are saying the periods 3 years then base promotion and relegation on the same time span. take an average over that period, with the club with the best record promoted and the club with the poor record relegated.
For me the whole system needs to be looked at, and the sooner the better

Lets face it the amount of money required.....85% of the lower level clubs could not dream on entering S/League could they...??

Give Widnes time and they will improve, but it won't happen overnight. I'm sure the Widnes we will see at the end of the season will be playing better than they are now. This season is a learning curve for them.
