Genuinely cannot believe citteh is a banned word, wtf
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah very odd indeed. Some woke snow flake must have took offense. $ex being a banned word is also quite baffling and actually quite concerning if you give it any thought. Are we just banning any word now ?

Eventually we'll just devolve and regress back to cavemen and communicate by whacking each other over the head with clubs I presume because words were deemed too offensive.

As much as City getting knocked out was great they definitely deserved to go through. Real scored one goal against the run of play and then barely got out of their half for the remainder of the match. And City really should have scored at least two goals, they had so many opportunities and De Bruyne somehow missed some incredibly easy opportunities to score.

I dont know how real do it every year, awful and manage to get by on rebounds and deflections.

Kai havertz in the CL this year:

10 games - 1 goal, 0 assists.

Really is the strangest signing I can remember for a long while.

Extremely entertaining games at this stage of the competition, however, am I just appearing a sour faced old sod because we are no longer qualifying in it or has the standard of teams weakened somewhat overall compared to previous seasons?

Just seems to me that the number of strong looking teams is far fewer than previously?

I certainly feel with the high level of coaching and such individual brilliance or atleast being able to express yourself has died down, thats across football in general. But yeah this madrid side are not good, yet seem to keep getting through, dont know how they do it.

Barca and bayerns worst teams in a few decades too.

It's unfortunate for them European football wasn't a thing until the 50's. Based on what I've read of the Chapman period, very safe to assume they'd have clean sweeped - had 9-10 European Cups.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think they would be roundly mocked for having a European record that predates WW2 with nothing to subsequently show for it.

A bit like we all mocked pool for never winning the PL, but on steroids.

Arsenal's failures and underachievement in Europe is quite weird given how good they can be domestically. Seems like they turn into Spurs in Europe.

posted 1 week, 6 days ago

they havent really been too great domestically over the last 50 years or so either.
5 Titles in 53 years.
For comparison, they got the same amount in the 30s.

Yeah probably, but reinforcing Nick's point, why aren't they ever called up on their greatest era predating WW2? It's like nobody knows that.

I'm not suggesting they're not a big club anyway, they've got the fact they've never been REALLY sh!t ever unlike the rest of us, but it's a little odd to me that they're widely considered the 3rd biggest club in England & that era is what's holding that reputation up. If the Wenger era never happened, would people notice that more?

Arsenal, like us in a way, hugely benefitted from becoming good with the ability for people worldwide to be able to watch significantly more english football with the PL broadcasting worldwide.

Add that to social media and more eyes on it.

We imo benefitted the most from that of any club maybe bar man utd. We got bought it 2003, a time when social media was just around the corner, and readily available streams and universally viewing was available easily.

Absolutely Nick.

You don’t get it Nick

We wasted him up front, Arteta’s gonna unlock him by playing him in midfield

*that blows up in their face, so they quietly shift the narrative*

It sucks for fanbases when stuff like Havertz happens.

It might just be my experience but because of the Bergkamp comparisons, Arsenal fans seemed to rag on him more than anyone else when he was our player

PL just isn’t as strong as people make out. Only City are actually relevant at the moment

Arsenal been dunked on in Europe in every single one of Arteta’s seasons, Liverpool just got their throats squeezed by 6th in Serie A. Less said about United the better and Newcastle bottled it

Blimey that's far less than I thought Nick. As a club they flatter to deceive in many ways.

It's not just trophies collectively though, it's also scale from size of stadium to global fanbase. Arsenal are very big in those senses.

All the English clubs out of Europe? Pretty good chance that'll be the case after today.

Are the other leagues getting stronger or is the premier league overrated? Maybe a bit of both
