Shanky
Ponting has to be in the team.
Bevan/ V Richards and Tendulkar are/were all decent sixth bolwing options in their day and with my four man pace attack, Kallis would hardly get a look in.
This would be my team
Tendulkar
Gilly
Kallis/Ponting
V Richards
Lara
M Hussey(better s/r than Bevan and a better player technically than Bevan)
Flintoff(if the above mentioned stats are true)
Akram
Warne
Garner
Ambrose
Hadn't thought about Dean Jones Ginger, great shout there, he was a quality player in the one day game. Also a little mention for Neil Fairbrother, maybe not for an all time world eleven but a wonderful player for England, was one of the few players who looked to get on with things before the one day game changed to where it is now.
All good but not quite good enough...imo.
Nice team shanks.
Fairbrother was our Bevan. Hardly ever hit fours but had a god s/rate.
PS Shanks - being serious for a second - no way would I put Hussey in for Bevan - brilliant ODI player no matter what the stats are - always came up with the goods - just an awesome one day player
Inzy - cant believe he hasnt had a mention
Bevan for me is a must, a great player to watch and the best finisher i have seen. Inzy is a good one too, great to watch in the world cup, 1992 i think it was, awesome power.
What do you think about M Hussey instead of Bevan ginger?
Anyone whos surname starts with WA and ends with UGH
One thing to remember is that the standard of fielding has improved dramatically which in ODI saves many runs. A modern day player might have a slightly lower average but warrant a place for his fielding.
Eoin Morgan springs to mind.
Mark Waugh would be another player to mention in the one day game, and from a slightly biased view being an England fan, Robin Smith, when he hit the ball, it stayed hit
Good point hope - so A.B.D.V is in then
Hussey's average is only 2 runs per match less than Bevan. But his s/r is 15 more than that of Bevan.i think for a No 6 batsman strike rate is more important.Bevan was a great limited overs batsman,an excellent accumulator but Hussey can be a destroyer IMO.
Shanks - Bevan is possibly one of the coolest players Ive ever seen - the man did not know the meaning of pressure - no matter what Oz needed ie foot on throat or total rescue - he was the man - Australia would not of been the force they were without him (imo)
In the last 5-8 years the totals scored in 50 overs has increased, which suggests that modern batsman have honed their skills significantly. Perhaps changes in the fielding regulations have also an important bearing.
"Perhaps changes in the fielding regulations have also an important bearing."
And better pitches, bat technology, shorter boundaries, batting powerplays etc.
Ok, I'm going to change Hadlee for Flintoff.
Bevan stats, shanky.
Barry Richards
Tendulkar
Ponting
Viv Richards
Lara
Gilchrist
Akram
Hadlee
Murali
Garner
Bond
Bond
Good shout.
Never saw Barry but I heard he was ok
