TBF...THE naked eye....shld be able too see it....the football doesn't travel as fast as a tennis ball....and the line judge can see it.....

On a good note England got a decision to counter Lampards goal from 2010
-----------------------------------------
not really. the guy who passed it to Lampard wasn't 2 yards offside in the build up.

The goal was corerctly not given. It was not given by the wrong person and for the wrong reason, but somehow the right decision was made and it wasn't given.

But i do agree on the pointless extra officials, though i think thy're just a halfway house until a technology system has been fully tested and approved.

We have had so many decisions go against us over the yrs that i dont feel bad about this goal at all, just wish it had happened in the final against Germany or Spain

As someone pointed out to me, other sports like tennis, cricket, rugby all have breaks in th play when they can refer to technology or video refs. football doesnt. ice hockey is the best comparison for crossing the line so it can be done

You have seen so many cases of shirt pulling in the box and these 4th officials have done nothing .

Having the extra officials is a great way of getting unemployment down. No skill required, being visually impaired is no disadvantage, you just need to be able to stand up for 45 minutes.

Boom Boom or Ashley Cole.

To be fair the guys behind the line are on a hiding to nothing; if they get it wrong they will be slaughtered and if they get it right they'll still be slaughtered. One set of fans will always disagree with the decision

Ashley Young even.

Finally someone else who realizes why video technology works in tennis, rugby and cricket and wouldn't work in football! i've been going on about a buzzer and/or light behind the goal for ages combined to determine whether the ball has gone in or not for ages.

I've always been interested in the anti-shoplifting technology (in terms of goal line technology not in general) in clothes shops, there's two posts either side of the exit and if something passes through without being scanned the lights and buzzer go off, there must be something football can use that is similar?

Wasn't Geoff Hurst's goal in the '66 World Cup final not fully over the line? ....

bringing up games from 46 years ago to try to prove a point of some sort?

The modern 3d replays seem to suggest it wasn't, but what is your point? it was 46 years ago, we can hardly go back and change it now.

The fact of the matter is that had last night's goal been allowed to stand it would have been a wrong decision, so on this occasion the fact that the extra officials are utterly pointless actually resulted in the correct decision being made, albeit for the wrong reason.

^ Of course a video referee could demonstrate that is was over the line but was also offside. Seems obvious to me, but maybe I'm stupid!

I can't see video refereeing coming in for a long, long time. Goalline technology however could conceivably be in for next season.

Not trying to prove a point. I just find it funny how people think this is 'justice' for the Lampard goal, considering when England won their only world cup based on a similar incident.

Boring. Been argued to death. TV cameras wont happen because it would mean that Blatter and FIFA would have to give in and admit defeat and that's not likely.

Quote of the tournament so far from Mick McCartney, who said that introducing the 2 goal line refs just meant that '5 officials now get it wrong rather than 3'
