Are you suggesting we don't give him a new contract and pay rise, let his contract run down and then see a repeat of Nasri/RvP etc situations.

I really hope wage and spending caps are brought into football, the money involved in the game is a joke at the moment.

Similar thing happened with wilshere, don't think ox has justified an increase of wages yet though.

As long as it's about 30/40k a week I guess it's OK considering he's an England international and with the wages nowadays. Agree with Greengr though it's just crazy.

@D'Jeezus - How long has he got left on his contract? he only just got here, I would imagine another 3 years!

As I said if it's not something ridiculous like £60K then it's OK, but we need to be careful how quickly we award these players.

I agree it sounds crazy, but it should also be remembered that Chamberlain has gone from League 1 football to the England team in less than a year.

As long as the board don't go over the top with the terms of his new contract, an increase in wages is fair enough in my book.

Have to keep updating contracts for young players.

If it is 3 years, and we didn't give him a new contract, next year it will be only 2 years and you start getting into a situation. One year later and we are in a RvP situation.

How much does Bendtner, denilson, Vela, Diaby and co get?

posted on 23/6/12

This maybe a simplitic view, but at the end of the day
Paying these types of wages to players that quite
Honestly don't make that difference to a club is
Ridiculous. Prove yourself then get what the market
Dictates. Wages are out of control in football.

i think theyre all on £50k+

How on earth did they get just a big pay jump??? Crazy!!!!

posted on 23/6/12

I just read somewhere he will get £45K, mmmm... not much of a buffer for future deals!

It's a joke really. He hardly played for us this season. At least wait till half way through the season before giving him a new contract.

We reward players who play ok/well for one season when we should see if they can do it again.

Just think the amount of wages we would have saved with jack if we waited awhile as he was injured all season

seen as he is good enough to sttart for us, should he gget starters pay>

This is a matter of principle. Teenage footballers should not be on any more than 25k a week. But nowadays it's just normal

posted on 23/6/12

I agree that footballers are paid too much generally, but you cant single out OX. He is now a full international. In the current climate £35k seems reasonable.

posted on 23/6/12

if you don't give them enough they will think leaving for bigger hunt

Gazidis is just a complete incompetent joke. The sooner he goes the better. How did this guy con his way into our club?

He should be busting a gut to keep RVP and to sign some new players as well as getting our deadwood off the wage s bill.

The OX is under contract so can't leave even if he wanted to. Let's give him another season before we start thinking of upping his money. This is certainly not a priority.

Interesting how we all slag off bankers and other rich gits for earning millions at the expense of the poor; and yet football fans don't seem to mind players earning similar amounts and hardly batting an eyelid about it.

funny old game, football. lol

Jack was on something like £10k a week. He could have left if we hadnt given him a new deal. He's loyal, but even loyal people want to see commitment from the other side too.

Not giving JW a pay rise back then would have been foolish, just as it would be foolish now to try and string OX on for as long as possible on low wages.

Its a comletely different situation. Bankers are stealing our money openly and we have no choice but to open our wallets. Its called extortion.

You have a choice with football to not subsrcibe to Sky and not go to matches.

Also the real thieves in the banking world earn several times what even the highest paid footballer earns.

Maybe not at club level, but he is now an English international and plays the European Championchip. That determines his value. An increase to 45k is probably just enough to fend off any interest at the moment. However, I guess in a couple of years we might have to double it again....

Well not in the UK but Madrid and Barca are financed by banks and their fans don't bat an eyelid when they lose or spend millions!
