Wow. He clearly wants a move. Surely we should go for him! Yeah, £10 million is a fair amount of money, agreed, but he's a very good defender, versatile, and who could wish for better back up?
It's not because of us it's between him and Ajax.
We've agreed transfer fee, personal terms and the basic medical.
I still expect him to be a spurs player come August
Why don't Spurs just pay an extra £2.5 million, that will cover the 15%.
Don't see him at Arsenal. He wants to be first choice, something we cannot offer him. Spurs on the other hand are restructuring their defence, and can give Vertonghen a first team place.
For him, Spurs are clearly the better option. They do have a good team, and he'll be playing constantly.
But for us, he's better than Djourou

Yeah.... right!!
While it would be nice to have 4 experienced international CBs to call on, it is unrealistic. Even Man City haven't got that. We need a youngster in there, Kyle Bartley deserves a chance.
Miquel hasn't been awful either. And in fairness, Djourou did have a couple of good games last season.
As well as that, £10 million could sign us a youngster or give it to RVP. That's what should be happening
WHERE in that report does it say he's 'back on the transfer market'

Yea right what?!?
i like how he has a moan at ajaz at the end of that article for leaking news about him wanting to leave. he had more microphone time on it than harry redknapp and lady gaga's lovechild
I wouldn't get to excited Vertonghen will still be a spurs player soon you clown. If you are reading between the lines then you should be smart enough to know this is Vertonghen trying to force the transfer as he knows Ajax won't want him gone on a free. Frank De Boer come out yesterday and said the deal was still close and they are already looking at a replacement.....this was after these quotes....gutted <flah>
yawn.
considering the problem is between ajax and the player and not spurs and the player or spurs and ajax, then it stands to reason that the same problem would exist between the player and ajax whether or not arsenal bid for him
the dispute is over the percentage of the transfer fee vertonghen gets from ajax, which would be the same issue whoever signs.
silly goooons getting excited over nothing
anyone remember that article i wrote a couple of days ago on arsenal fans being the least intelligent fans in football? ............
it gets proved more and more correct with each day that passes
"silly g oons getting excited over nothing"
Yeh chronic.....like their "welcome to arsenal" comments all over youtube on Vertonghen videos Only arsenal fans
And you just know when he does sign for us, they'll be on here tring to tell us he's carp and that they didn't want him anyway. I give you AFC: joke club, pathetic fans.
Some people actually don't want him!
joke club

this 'joke club' has finished ahead of your for what is it now, 20 straight years. If we're a joke, what on earth does that make Spurs? a bit of slapstick comedy?
I think Vertonghen will end up at Spurs but far too overprized.
Dont Want him at arsenal. he's not good enough to displace vermaelen and kossy and then we have per at 3rd choice. It would be pointless of we do go for him, unless of course one of those mentioned above move on.
Yeah sure he can play left back by why not get a proper left back rather than one who occasionally plays there. Like wise with dm.
Who cares if they sign Vertonghen?
They will still be a mid table club with AVB at the helm
<doh.<doh.<doh.<doh.<doh.<doh.<doh.<doh.<doh.<doh.<doh.<doh.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooops!!
Thing is he'd be 3rd choice if he were to come to us. A good player, but would he rather be 1st choice at Tottenham or have to fight for every appearance at Arsenal? I'm willing to bet we won't pay him more than Tottenham will because of his importance to the team either. I don't expect he'll come to us.
