My favourite match was Nadal v Djokovic Australian Open final and I liked and enjoyed this match even though I am a Nadal fan and he lost.
P.S Game of tennis can be cruel as a player can win more points and more games in a match but still end up losing the match!
thanks for that tip ......
even the first 3 sets which weren't exactly riveting?
A lot of the Fed matches (but I might be biased on that one), e.g. IW SF (he beat Rafa), Dubai final (beat Murray on super fast court), Madrid final (beating Berdych from a set behind on blue clay), Wimbledon SF and Final!
Leeds I agree, I cannot really think of one that I would term a "classic". Because of my bias, I am also fondly remembering some of Fed's matches. Say IW against Rafa .
I also quite liked Fed's AO matches against Delpo and Tomic, neither of them a classic but that was the first time in a long time when Fed reminded me of his old self (even more so than during the WTF).
Many years ago on the old 606 someone said that Fed's victories were often "oddly bloodless". I am not sure whether or not it was meant as a compliment but I thought at that time that it described it well. In the old days, many Fed's victories just seemed "to happen". The last few years, his matches - even in victory - have started to look like more ordinary tennis battles. Delpo and Tomic matches reminded me of the old Fed. Luckily, and very surprisingly to me, I have seen a few more similar ones since then.
Also agree that we were deprived of great quality slam matches this year but I'll explain this by having Federer struggling form at the FO and most part of Wimby. Cause let's face it, he is the only one who can deliver such variety and grace at the end of slams.
I'd say Dubai (Federer Delpo and v Murray) and Madrid's blue (Fed v Rao and Tsip) were fun to watch.
This is strange, but I can't remember a single match that grabbed m heart. There were good ones, but nothing special.
I remember individual performances more than matches.
Probably Nadal Rosol would be the one, esp the 5th set.
I saw a set or two of the most sublime tennis from Dolgopolov, I can't even remember who and where he was playing, though
Nole playes a good match at Wimbledon, I actually quite enjoyed his play against Mayer.
Tsona Nole must have been some match too.
Tennis in Madrid was exciting as well, mainly for the thrill of playing on that surface as I saw players move in a way I have never seen them before.
btw, leeds, what kind of English is that you are using in your first sentence, excuse my old age, but is that the latest slang or stg?

Federer - Davydenko Rotterdam
Davy outplayed Fed for a good part of the match but somehow Fed narrowly escaped like he did against Davy AO 2020. It was a great show altogether
Djoko - Isner IW
Thrilling and unpredictable match till the very last point.
Rosol - Nadal Wimbledon
Hilarious, i have no other word for it.
Djokovic losing to Federer in Wimbledon 2012 was awesome and also Nadal beating Djokovic in French Open 2012 was a great match to see for me.<grin>

Feds DP matches (most of)

tsonga-djoker at FO was quite interesting as well. Also Raonic-Fed matches have been interesting too. Fed had to dig very deep to keep inspired Raonic at bay.
