Keeping Agger

They paid £24m for Santa Cruz and also signed Hargreaves. Personally I don't think they give a fúck as long as they're strengthening their team and weakening others.

I don't understand how it can be said a squad lacks depth so we should sell four players.

Last year the squad was changed around too much. It's unsettling.

We should add afew players every year and lose a few and that is enough.

Aside of that you have the extra expense of signing on fees, the extra difficulty of actually signing them, intergrating them, having them settle, them moving house, their kids moving school, etc, etc.

A signing for the right hand side and a LB and we're done/ We don't to lose any players and that includes Spearing.

27m would be good business but who would we get to replace and would that leave enough spare for Dempsey who I still think would be a good addition to the squad - especially for if / when Gerrard is injured.

Reports are we agreed a deal with Westham and he turned that down!

Within reason. We're talking about Agger moving to the league champions. West Ham will be fighting relegation and the deal involved a loan for the first year.

Yes but the player still did what he wanted! What I'm saying is that the player will only move if he wants to!

Its not that black and white the way your making it out to be. He has 2 years left on his contract and if the club are looking to cash in rather than a renewal then you have no choice but to look at options. If he was on a 4 year contract now and then looking to leave by speaking to City then that is different as his future is not secured.

Who was the player that ended up being made to train with the junior youth team to embarrass him into leaving but he still stayed for the money.

Think it was arsenal but not sure??

I don't think it's imperative to keep any player as long a you have a good manager who gets backing.

Arsenal sell Fabregas and Nasri, everyone says they will fall apart. For a while they did, but a good manager got them through and they achieved their aim of CL football.

United sold Ronaldo and everyone said that was them finished. It wasn't.

If Agger goes then he goes.

good point righteous

good point to a degree, they had the lure of CL football to attract new players though, we don't have that luxury.

if we want to be back in the top 4 we need to keep our best players and improve on the squad bit by bit.

selling our best players because the money was too good to refuse is not going to help our cause of getting back in the top 4, esp as we have a player who WANTS to stay and play for the club.

we have a top 4 defence, just needs strengthening here and there in other positions, we sell Agger i think personally we will struggle as him and Skrtel have formed a good partnership and understanding.

He is bankrupt now.

We didn't need CL football to attract Allen and Borini.

If Agger goes I am sure we can attract a good young ball playing centre-half, no doubt we already have players in mind should Agger leave.

Agger is one of our best players, but he only plays 50% of games and is nearly 28. With his record he probably won't last much past 31 as a fit top player.

£20m plus for him is silly money and could help our quest for CL football, not hinder it.

Remember he cost only £5m, and we could probably get a good replacement for a similar fee (£5-10m).

Sorry but I totally disagree. I cannot think of a single player that could replace a left footed ball playing centre back who can defend.

There is too much upheaval within the squad and coaching staff as it is. Keep him - money ain't everything.

Cost of everything - value of nothing.

Howedes (better potential)
Papadopoulos (better potential)
Godin is decent but will be a step backwards
We have Coates
Raul Albiol
Victor Ruiz

Its not the end of the world

It's not you who has to think of them though Robbing Hoody.

Would you have thought of Agger or Skrtel?

The scouts and BR will find someone capable of doing the job.

I trust them to do it, until BR proves he is not capable.

And don't come with the it's not BR's decision to sell Agger rubbish. If he goes it is because BR agrees with it.

He hasn't taken a job at Liverpool to just bend over and be the owners pet.

think there is more value in keeping Agger personally, as we have a strong defence, and if he helps us get a top 4 finish, there is more value in that (think its £30-35 mill odd isn't it for cl money) than the £20 mill we would get for him if we sold him.

of course you argument will be but we can use the funds to strengthen in other areas as well, which is a fair point, but i just think he is too good to replace even with his injury problems, and we would have an unsettled back 4 esp if Cara is playing as the replacement wasn't good enough,i see more risk in that, than keeping him and hoping he doesn't get injured.

only my opinion though

I don't go for the Rodgers thing either - seems like his own man to me.

I just think that the public see the money and think it's good business without looking at the other aspects.

Agger is very popular in the dressing room? What would the rest of the squad think?

Would a new replacement settle in time or at all if they were from abroad?

Will the new player speak English and if so will he be able to form a partnership with Skrtel?

Will the new players children settle in at school? Will his wife?

Will he be left footed?

Or we could keep a World class centre back keeping together about the only positive from last season and sort out the other bits of the squad that we've all been moaning about for 3 years?

I dont think anybody WANTS him to go but if he does go then its not the end of the world as some are making it out to be on here

Surely the ball is in LFC/FSG's court. If they don't offer Agger a new improved contract he'll have no option but to move on, regardless of how much he loves the club.

Should probably just cash in on Suarez and simply replace him tbh. Good point.

posted on 13/8/12

And i presume you will be supporting Suarez when he moves to his new club?

posted on 13/8/12

Just making a point.

Suarez has not hit his Liverpool peak yet, so it makes no financial sense to sell him now.

Agger has just had his best season for the club, the 27 league games he played being his equal most in a season with 2006-2007.

He has also just had a great Euro's, and is out of contract in 2 years.

Now is a great time to sell him, price wise, his value will only go down from here onwards.

It is sensible business to sell him now, but whether it is also sensible football will depend on who we replace him with, and what we do with the money we would get for him.

They are unknowns, but selling him is not necessarily a football negative.

I understand people not wanting to sell him, but am willing to look at the positives if we do.

Also we can't just blame FSG if he doesn't sign a new contract. None of us know what Agger is asking for, or what he is being offered (if anything).
