Well, we can debate Maynard until the cows come home. The only fact is that he hasn't signed our extension, neither has he put in a transfer request, so he will be staying with us until either January or next season. Exactly what I predicted a few weeks back.
He doesn't need to rush - he holds all the cards.
Nugent scored 15 goals last season in a team that only scored 53. We scored 76 and created a ridiculous amount of chances too. Nugent is a good goal scorer at this level and I would expect him to get between 15 - 20 next season.
I'm not saying I would want Nugent instead of Maynard but I am also glad that we've got him, I think both of them would be brilliant but then i'm not overly keen on Maynard either because he isn't worthy of the ridiculous price tag. He's been out for a long while, only got a year on his contract and no other club is remotely interested in him.
You're going to lose him for nothing which to me doesn't make any sense at all. His goals won't get you promoted so all that's going to happen is you'll still be lingering around mid-table but will be 5 mill + worse off, you must be well chuffed with that outcome
In the worse case scenario,if we keep Maynard for the remaining period of his contract, his goals could guarantee our survival in the Championship if not more.
It may be worth the loss and we wouldn't owe anything to Crewe.
Afternoon all,
I'm a new user on this site and I must say that I find the arrogance of the Leicester fans who comment on this page quite astounding.
Personally I am resigned to the fact that, one day soon, Nicky Maynard will leave City. It may be this transfer window.. It may be the next.. or he may go for nothing. Either way he will go. Even if he does sign a new contract. The amount we could get for him or whether we lose him for nothing next year makes no difference to me. It might concern me more if we were reliant on transfer fee's for future investment... but we are not.
Yes it would be very disappointing if he were to join another championship club.. but if he does, then so be it.
Yet the way some of these Leicester fans have acted during this period of speculation, I do deeply wish that when he goes.. that it's to any club but theirs. I'd prefer he went over the bridge to Cardiff to be honest.
P.S. Sorry for any poor spelling and/or grammar
Arrthefox - "you won't get promoted... Etc" - you are probably right.
Only 3 clubs can be promoted, which means that the majority will miss out.
I assume you are suggesting that LC have a better chance of promotion than us - you might be right, but there is a pretty good chance you WON'T go up either.
Who would have given Blackpool the odds previous season, or Swansea last season?
Cardiff (a bit like you lot) have been splashing the borrowed cash like the credit-crunch is simply a myth - and they didn't manage it!!
We shall see what Nicky decides to do soon enough, but if you DO get him it will be for absolute top dollar.
tbh if you got him for 6 mill, you would get your moneys worth he scores 20+ in this league and 100% confident he would do it in the prem 10 goals maybe, but thats why we want him here
"We shall see what Nicky decides to do soon enough, but if you DO get him it will be for absolute top dollar."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems that if he stays at BCFC then you may have to pay top dollar too.
To be honest I find it difficult to understand why BCFC haven't forced his hand by now. To let a player run his contract down when you could get £5m for him is simply not good business. If he re-signs, fair enough, but he's clearly taking some time.
It's time for the lad to make his mind up. I'm sure that both BCFC and LCFC have over transfer targets and this is just stopping both clubs from recruiting.
If I was the BCFC chairman I'd say he can go for £Xm and he has X amount of weeks to sign a new contract and stay. That will alert the big boys and if no Premier League club comes in then he either signs the contract or buggas off to the only other club interested - LCFC - who in turn would have to meet the valuation.
As an LCFC fan I just want us to sign a striker. I can't see it being NM anymore and the quicker we can move on the better.
'I find it difficult to understand why BCFC haven't forced his hand by now' -
Are you having a laugh. The power is entirely with the player and his agent.
'It's time for the lad to make his mind up' -
No it's not, he can do as he pleases - it's reality.
'If I was the BCFC chairman' - You really are having a laugh.
mikeynoski - sorry mate I don't see how we're being arrogant. We haven't said we're definitely going to get promoted, in fact most City fans while excited about the season ahead, also understand that there is hell of a lot of pressure on us to win the league.
The squad we have is 'arguably' the best in the league and we have some excellent players and a resounding strength in depth.
Our squad now is:
GK Schmeichel/Weale
RB Pantsil/Peltier
CB Tunchev/Mills/Bamba/St Ledger
LB Konchesky/Ball
MD Wellens/Danns/King/Abe/Oakley/Moussa
FW Gallagher/Vassell/Nugent/Waghorn/Howard
We have a good mix of experienced quality Championship and PL players and the only thing missing is a top quality striker, but I have no doubt that Sven will get the right man in, eventually!!
I haven't said that NM should join us, though if he did he would obviously be joining a team who have a very good chance of doing well this season, what I have said is I don't understand why the board would risk losing a substantial amount of money on him because he is going to leave and the longer it goes on the lower his price will become.
You're not going to need his goals to fight off relegation but at the same time it is extremely unlikely that his goals will get you promoted either. The league is getting stronger and, in my opinion, you're way off the pace.
I understand you wanting to keep one of your best players but its the cost at you're willing to hold on to him that I don't understand. Let's face it, if you took 5 mill you'd be able to buy some good players to improve you're team and give yourselves a better chance of promotion. You could buy a striker, someone like Billy Sharp who has scored 15 goals for Donny the last two seasons, for 2-3 mill and have the rest for defenders (I hear that is what you need) but if your board continue to hold out they're going to have to dig into their own pockets to find the cash to buy the players to improve your squad. If money isn't a problem for them, why have they not already bought the players you need?
And it isn't all in the players hands, if the board accepted a bid it would force NM to make a decision, leave, or sign a new contract, simple!!
Good luck for the season anyway, I have nothing against BCFC, I just don't understand the viewpoint of your board
No disrespect and I know it's nice to stick up for your team but I don't think you're that good..
A good bet for next season..1 2 and 3
West Ham,Notingham Forest and Ipswich..
Play-offs..
Reading,Cardiff,Portsmouth,Southampton and Leicester..
Why would Nicky be desperate to join you.
Be Realistic,have a good season....
That just shows how much you know about football hey mate!!
West Ham > yeah they will be the team to beat
Forest have you no idea what a mess they're in?? They haven't got a team and the wally with the brolly couldn't go on the pre-season tour because he needed to try to sign some players. Eight players out, one in
Ipswich > just lost their best player, signed Chopra but nobody else - will be lucky to push play-offs at best
Reading > lost their captain to us, haven't improved their squad from last season, nothing special
Cardiff > lost all their best players and not replaced them with anyone.
Portsmouth > were rubbish last season, haven't signed anyone and have lost players - no chance of play-offs
Southampton > just come up, if they get a good start they could carry on through momentum but doubt it.
Bristol City > rubbish last season, haven't improved their squad, will more than likely lose their best player - mid-table
How about you try to justify you're comment that "we're not that good"? Which players exactly are not that good and who in the league is better?
Everyone can see that Sven has assembled a very good team with experienced, quality PL full backs, four of the best centre halves in the league, three of the best midfielders in the league with Wellens, Danns and King and that's not including Abe who was Japans best player in the last world cup and then Gallagher, Nugent and Vassell, add to that whoever else we bring in, yeah we're really not good!!
The only player you have that's probably better than anything we have is Maynard and he's well overrated!!
I never said that he should be desperate to join us but the bookies haven't got us a favourites to win the league for no reason!!
How can a mere mortal explain to you people that we all have opinions, mine are that your lot simply are not good enough, your manager and players on paper are alright but not the best, there are better in our league.
I'm don't have to justify my opinions to anybody and I'm certainly not your mate.
I wish your team well but have no expectation of them doing anything special, ave a good season.
What a wnak response, i'm not wasting anymore of my time on "you people".
Enjoy your future of mediocrity
Nice sensible person,we all agree...

1. We've let 8 "first team" players go

Yep Forest are the new DADS Army of the Championship, used to be us buying all the deadwood, now its Florist! Love it! Be nice to see them struggling next season with Wally in charge of them! LMAO!
As for Bristol City, yep very mediocre side /club average support, no real ambitions, mid table at best next season and hopefully Maynard leaves them for nothing at the end of the season now that would be funny!
